Description

T; voLouus NECKTIE, APPLICAHON FILED NAIL 5. I921- Patented June 21, 1921.
A RNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS POLONUS, 0F YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO.
NECKTIE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS PoLoNUs, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates principally to the foundation portion of neckties and the application thereto and maintenance thereon of the fabric portions thereof; and means for holding the edges of a collar in proper 7 position, while at the same time acting as a support and fastener for the tie.
lVith these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel and useful features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter described and claimed; and in order that it may be fully understood, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improvement applied to a turn-down collar.
Fig. 2 is a detailed view showing the layout of the foundation. portion.
Fig. 3 is a detail view. V
Fig. *1 is a detail view showing a rear view of the tie and foundation portion in process of being attachedto the fabric portions of tie.
In the said drawing, 1 indicates a tie of the bowvariety, or any other tie, such as is provided with a central band 2.
By referring to Fig. 1 it will be seen that I have the tie 1 properly positioned upon the turn-down collar 1.
By referring to Fig. 2 it will be seen that the foundation portion consists of a soft metallic plate 4 provided with two central projections 5. Each of these central projections 5 are provided with tongues 6 and 7. At the outer ends of the soft metallic plate 4: are secured buttons 8 which fit into button holes formed in the edges of the turn-down collar 3.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J n 21 1921 Application filed March 5, 1921.
Serial No. 449,998.
By referring to Fig. 3 it will be seen that this soft metallic plate 4 is slightly curved in order to fit snugly between the folds of the turn-down collar 3.
By referring to Fi 4.- it will be seen that the soft metallic plate 4: with the two central projections 5 and their tongues T are slipped underneath the central band 2. The tongues 6 are bentdown over the back portion of the central band 2. The next step in securing the foundation portion to the tie l is carried out by bending the, tongues 7 down and over the central band 2 as shown in the position of the tongues 6.
By referring to Fig. i it will also be seen that the arrangement of the tie may be readily changed and a new central band 2 used to replace an old central band 2 when the same may become soiled or worn.
Having fully described my invention. what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a device of the class described, a slightly curved soft metallic plate, two ccn trally located side proections, two tongues formed at the edges of said side projectibi'is, each tongue being parallel to the soft me tallic plate, a button secured at each end of said soft metallic plate, substantially as do scribed for the purpose set forth.
2. In a device .of thcclass described, having in combination with a turn-down collar, a neck-tie provided with a central band with a slightly curved soft metallic plate, two centrally located side projections, two tongues formed at the edges of said side projections, each tongue being parallel to the soft metallic plate, a button secured at each end of said soft metallic plate, substantially as described for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I a'ilix my signature.
THOMAS POLONUS.
