POLISH-BOX OPENER.

Application filed November To all to ham it may concern Be it known that I, ZARAGOZA G. RAMON, a citizen of Mexico, residin at Amarillo, in the county of Potter and btate of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Polish-Box Openers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to boxes of the type used for containing shoe polishing pastes and the like, and has for its object the provision of a novel box of this character provided with means whereby the cover thereof may be quickly and easily removed without injury to the fingers of the user and without any necessity for the employment of any tool.

An imporant object is the provision of a box of this character in which the cover portion is formed with integral extensions adapted to be bent properly to form holding means for the opening key carried thereby.

An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manua'facture, highly eflicient in use, durable in service, and a general improvement in the art.

\Vith the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is an elevation of a box constructed in accordance with my invention, showing it in normal or closed position.

Fig. 4 is a view of the blank from which the cover is formed.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, I have shown my box as comprising a bottom portion A formed with a bead B and also as including a cover C adapted to telescopically engage over the bottom A with its free edge engaging the bead B. This is the common and well known construction of boxes of this character.

In carrying out my invention I form the top C from a circular blank 10 which is of course pressed into the usual shape by the usual means or any other means but formed Specification of Letters Patent.

upon one edge of this blank 10 are tongues 11 arranged in spaced parallel, relation and connected by a web 12. Between the web 12 and the adjacent edge of the blank 10 is formed a slot 13 for the purpose to be described. Between the tongues 11 the web 12 is formed with a tongue 14-. At their extremities the tongues 11 are formed with holes 15 and the tongue let is formed with a hole 17 adapted to' be brought into registration with a hole 16 in the web.

The blank 10 being stamped into the usual shape to constitute the top C, the tongues 11 are bent upwardly and are soldered onto the edge of the cover, the holes 15 facilitating the soldering and increasing the holding action. The tongue 14: is bent onto the web 12 with the holes 16 nd 17 in registration, so as to form a hearing.

The numeral 18 designates a cam lever cut from a single piece of material, such as sheet metal, and having an elongated end portion 19 having a lateral lip 20. The head portion 21 of this cam member is pivoted between the bent up tongue lei and the adjacent portion of the web, a suitable pivot pin or the like passing through the holes 16 and 17 and through a hole 22 in the head. The head 21 operates through the slot 13 and is designed to engage against the bead B when the extension 19 is pressed away from the bead. This latter mentioned action will result in prying the cover from the bottom por tion of the box so that it may be quickly and easily removed without any danger of injuring the fingers of the operator.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement or" parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

A device of the character described comprising in combination, a box body formed with a circumferential bead, a cover telescopically engaged upon the body, said cover being formed at one side with spaced tongues connected by a web and the web being separated from the body of the cover by a slot, said tongues and web being bent to lie alongside the flange of the cover, a thirdtongue formed on the web and bent into spaced relation thereto to define a, bearing, and a lever pivoted between said last named 5 tongue and the web and having a cam head operating through said slot and engageable with said head, the extremities of said first named tongues being provided with holes and said ends being soldered onto the body of the cover, the holes permitting passage 10 of the solder.
