P. D. GERHART LID REMOVER origial Filed Nov 19, 1921 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 2, 1926.
PAUL D. GERHART, or EXETER, CALIFORNIA.
LID Removers.
Substitute for application Serial No. 516,398, filed November 19, 1921. This application filed November To all 'wko/1n t 'may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL D. GERHART,
a citizen of the United States, residing at route No. l, Box 94A, Exeter, in the county ot- Tulare and State ot California, have invented new and uset'ul improvements in Lid Removers, ot which the -following is a specification.
This invention relates to a lid remover and is a substitution for my abandoned application which was tiled November 19, 1921, Serial No. 516,398 and allowed July 28, 1922, and has for its primary object the provision ot' a remover that may be readily mounted upon a jar or other receptacle and when in place will exert great pressure under the lid for prying the same trom the An object of the invention is the provision ot a litter or remover that will ettectively remove a well-known lid 'from a without in any way subjecting the operator to any great exertion or hazard.
A Jfeature of the invention is the novel manner of constructing and arranging the parts so that a leverage action may be produced tor exerting great pressure under the lid and so remove the same with the least exertion possible.
It will be noted the parts are so constructed and asssociated that the litter may be quickly connected to or disconnected from ajar or other receptacle.
`With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the 'following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein Fig. 1 is a side elevation ot the remover in applied position,
Fig. 2 is a top plan view, and
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view on the line S-B ot Fig, 2.
Again referring to the drawing illustrating one of the many constructions ot' my invention, the letter B designates a jar upon which is mounted a well-known lid C that is provided with a tiange D.
The numeral 1 designates the split band ot my improved litter. The ends ot the heeft er@ entre@ @Laverda te teun aan Serial N0. 752,771.
surfaces 2 tor facilitating the snapping ot the band around the neck ot the jar and also to -facilitate the removal of the band trom the jar by exerting pressure upon the bent ends. The band 1 is formed with a totded portion to provide a projection 3 and turther provided with supporting wings et that extend laterally trom the projection in the opposite direction and rest upon` the shoulder E. A .lever 5 is pivotally connected to the projection as sho vn at 6 and is provided with a tooth i so disposed that in the swinging' movement ot the lever same will move into engagement with the under surface ot the flange D and further movement ot' the lever will exert pressure great enough to torce the lid from the jar.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be seen that I provide a structure that may loe very quickly connected vand disconnected from a jar or otherv receptacle and which is capable of exerting great pressure at the proper point to force the cap or lid 'from the jar. It will also be noted that this action takes place in a manner that danger to the operator is eliminated and beside the amount ot exertion necessary is reduced to a minimum.
It is, ot course, to be understood that the diierent relations and, therefore, I do not desire to loc limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim is: l j
A lid remover comprising a split band for engagement around a jar neck, said band being formed with a folded portion to provide a projection extending et right angles to the band, wings at the lower end of' the projection and extending in opposite clirections for bearing on the shoulder of the jar and a lever pivoted to the projection to swing vertically and a tooth on the inner end ot the lever for engagement under the j ar cap.
ln testimony whereof I atiix my signature,
