Description

z ineumem l nven'i m? 1 y w K d/40 Wflwwa I Qqyd UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. BISHOP, OF SARATOGA SPRINGS, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,883, dated April 15, 1873; application filed April 4,1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. BISHOP, of Saratoga Springs, in the county of Saratoga and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in WindowSash Locks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a bottom view of my window-sash lock. Fig. 2 is a top View of the same. Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the same. Figs. 3, 5, 6, and 7 are detailed views.
My invention relates to window-locks; and consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the locking-tumbler and of a lever for withdrawing the positive stop, as hereinafter specified.
A of the drawing represents a plate adapted for passing into and being held in a suitable recess cut in the stop of a window. The
outer surface ofthis plate should be flush with the surface of the window-stop, and be secured in position by means of screws passing through the openings a a. The letter B represents a lever, pivoted to the plate at c, and constructed with a concave head having aprojecting point, as shown at f. 0 represents a spring, arranged between the flange of the plate and the back of arm or lever O, the office of which is to throw the head of said lever forward when desired. D represents a lever pivoted to the plate at n. It is constructed with a thumb-piece, 0, wrist-pin s, which" latter device is adapted to work in a slot, 1, and against the front side of the lever B, to
"cess of the window-sash next mentioned, and
also to hold said lever B back and away from the window-sash, when desirable so to do. To look the window this tumbler is placed in the position shown by the dotted lines on Fig. 4,
and to hold the arm B back from the sash, I
place it in the position shown on Fig. 1. A
thumb-piece or screw-head, 3 on the front side of the plate enables the operator to adjust this tumbler at will and in the position desired.
In the side or front of the window-sash I arrange a recess or recesses adapted to receive the extended head of lever B and operate therewith.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The tumbler H having double eccentrics, as shown, in combination with the lever B, the several parts being so arranged that said tumbler can only be attached and detached by the removal of said lever, substantially as specified.
2. In combination with the slotted plate A and lever B, the lever D with its projections, constructed and adapted to operate substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
GEO. W. BISHOP.
Witnesses:
GEORGE E. UPHAM, 1). D. KANE.
