To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, DAVID W. SrnvENsoiv, a citizen of the United States, residing in Berkeley, in the lcounty of Alameda and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Dispensing Card-Cases, of which the following 1s a specification.

My invention relates to dispensing card cases wherein telescoping casings are provided with means for dispensing a single card at each operation.

The object of my invention is to provide an improved case for retaining calling or business cards and the like.

A second obj ect of my invention V1s to provide means for dispensing a single card as desired from a card retainingcase.

I accomplish these and other objects hereinafter set forth by means of the device disclosed in the drawings forming a part of the present specification, and wherein like characters of reference are used to designate similar parts throughout the said specification and drawings, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of one type of my improved card case;

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the case, the closed position being indicated in dotted lines Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the case in extended relation for filling;

Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2 in the direction indicated;

Fig. 5 is an enlarged view of the dispensing clip and foot; and

Fig. 6 is a side elevation showing one modification of design of case that may be used.

Referring to the drawings the device is seen to comprise an outer casing l, open at one end thereof to receive an inner casing 2 telescoping therewith and retaining a plurality of cards 3 therein. A spring metal clip 4 having a bearing foot 6, provided with a friction producing pad 7 suitably secured thereon, is secured on the inner surface of the top of the outer casing l by suitable rivets 5.

The inner casing 2 is provided at its outer end with an inclined wall 9 and a slot 10 through -which the cards 3 are singly dispensed. An inner wall 11 retains the cards within the inner casing and serves to displace the clip 4 when extended for filling. The foot 6 prevents a complete removal of the inner casing.

In operation, my invention is as. follows:

To fill the case the inner casing 2 is withdrawn to its extreme position as shown in Fig. 3 ofthe drawings the rear wall serving to displace the spring ,clip 4 and hold said clip tightly against the cover therebyallowing cards 3-to be-inserted. The foot Gmarks the extreme limit of movement and prevents the removal of the inner casing 2 past .the clip 4. The casings are now telescoped whereby clip 4 is released and foot pad 7 is brought in contact with the uppermost card 3. .The friction between pad 7 and card 3 being greater than the resistance offered by the inclined wall 9, the card is not carried with the telescoping movement of the casing but slides along the surface of the next lower card where the friction is less than the resistance of wall 9, and is dispensed through the slot 11 in such manner as to be readily grasped by the ngers and removed. Upon the removal of the first card the spring clip brings the friction pad 7 in contact with the next lower'card. If now the inner case is partially removed all the cards 3 are carried forward with it by the rear wall l1 of said inner casing, but upon retelescoping the casings now the uppermost card is again held by friction against the pad 7 and is directed upwardly through slot 10 by wall 9. In similar manner the remaining cards are dispensed singly as desired.

The pad 7 forming the friction surface for foot 6 is made of rubber or any fibrous material having a high coeiiicient of friction and is held firmly against the cards by the spring clip 4. The forwardl inclined teeth 8 shown in Fig. 5 of the rawings gives Van increased gripping effect in holding the uppermost card against the displacing force of the inclined wall 9.

The case may be constructed of cheap cardboard or of any degree of elaborate metal design to suit the' requirements of individual users, the principal of construction being the same regardlessv of the external design.
