Description

L. STRANAHAN. Broom-Corn Busters.
Patented April I5, 1873.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES L. STRANAHAN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT= IN BROOM-CORN ILDUSTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,805, dated April 15, 1873; application filed March 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES L. STEANAHAN, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Broom-Corn Dusters; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 shows my invention in elevation, and Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section.
Like letters refer to like parts in each gure.
The nature of this invention relates to an improved manner of connecting handles to broom-dusters, so that the binding ofthe brush is entirely hidden from view, and a much neater appearance given to the duster. The invention consists in building the brush or broom-duster around a cylindrical stick,
one end of which is left projecting above the head; this projecting end is glued into a hollow handle in such a Ina-nner that the wire-binding is entirely hid from view, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawing, A represents the body of a broom-corn duster, the same being built up around a cylindrical stick, B, one end of which is left projecting beyond the head or bound end of the body. C is the handle of the duster, having in its inner end a cylindrical socket, a, to receive the projecting end of the stick B. The mouth of this socket a is enlarged for the purpose of receiving the bound portion of the brush, as shown in the drawing.
This handle should preferably be glued in place, though it may be secured by riveting through the handle and the piece B.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the brush A, stick B, and socket-handle C, arranged as described, for the purpose set forth.
JAMES L. STRANAHAN.
