oEslGN Fon ToRcHEs.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,411, dated August 1, 1876; application filed July 21, 1876. [Term of Patent 31); years.]
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, GEORGE F. HoLLis, of Boston, in the county of Sui'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for rIorches, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, making part of this specification.
This invention relates to a design for torches for political and other clubs; and consists in providing the torch with a broom or brush, which is supported above the stick or handle, and is used as an emblem or symbol ot' vietory.
In the photograph, A represents the olre ceptacle, which is pivoted within a wire ring, B, swinging Within a bifureated wire support, O, the lower end of which is secured to a socket, b, fitting over the upper end of the stick or handle D, Within which is an aperture, which serves as a socket for the reception of the short handle of a small broom or brush, E, which is thus upheld in a vertical position within the bifurcated support C, the broom or brush being used as an emblem to indicate victory, and the sweeping away of all opponents, the design thus produced being unique and expressive.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
` The within-described design, consisting of a broom or brush, E, applied to a torch, substantially as set forth.
Witness my hand this 19th day of July, A. D. 1876.
