COMBINATION WHITEWASII-BRUSI-I.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 4, 1919.
Application filed September ll), 1918. Serial No. 253,371.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ZSUZSANA VARGHA, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at McKeesport, county of Allegheny, and State of Penna, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Whitewash-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in brushes and particularly to types adapted to apply paint, whitewash and the like to the walls and ceilings of buildings.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a brush having a relatively long, manually operable handle, engaged with a head, to which is connected a pair of angularlv disposed arms engaged with the brush backing A further object is to provide means whereby the brushes may be adjusted at different distances apart, and,
Finally to provide a brush capable of applying at one operation a double quantity of liquid material.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of the disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a top plan view showing a simple form of brush made in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the same, and
Fig. 3 is a top plan view showing a modified form of construction.
In the several views the numeral 10 designates the handle, here shown to consist of rigid bar, of any desired length, having on its end a socket or ferrule 11, held by the pin 12, and terminating in a rounded knob 14. Extending bracket like elements 15, are formed with socket or head 11, terminating in knobs 16, similar to the knob 14, and rigidly engaged therein are a pair of arms 18, the same diverging sidewise and extended downward, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
These arms are engaged by their taper shanks 19, in spherical heads 20, forming the upper portion of the brush backings 21, below which extend the bristle elements 22, the construction being such that the handle 10, is normally above the operative surface of the brush elements, which, being separated, permit a larger surface to be covered than if a single brush were employed.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3, in place of the knob 16, the bracket elements 15 terminate in opposed pairs of plates 25, in which, rotatable on pivot pin 26, are segmental gears 28, operated by the threads 29, of a right and left hand screw 30, rotatably mounted in the head 11, and provided with a knurled operating knob 31; thus the arms 18 may be moved toward or from each other and obviously the distance between the brushes adjusted.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a pair of the brushes are engaged upon a single-handle and so arranged as to be used in a convenient manner and further, and that the brushes may be adjusted as desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is V In a brush of the class described, the combination with a handle, a head formed thereon, a pair of forked brackets extending laterally from each side of said head, segmental gears pivoted between the forks of said brackets, a screw having right and left hand threads mounted in said head engageable with said segmental gears, means for operating said screw, arms formed with said gears, said arms extending divergently from said head, and brushes removably engaged on the outer ends of said arms.
In testimony whereof I have afl'ixed my signature.
ZSUZSANA VARGHA.
