ATTACHMENT FOR BRUSH-HANDLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 590,751, dated September 28, 1897.
T (tZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, ABRAHAM B. CLARKE and THoMAs ARMSTRONG, citizens of the United States, and residents of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and Improved Attachment for Brush-Handles, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part hereof.
The nature of our invention will appear from the following description and claim. Its object is to provide an attachment for brushhandles, which attachment is adapted to be attached directly to the brush-stick and also be adapted to grasp this stick and adjust it, so as tohold the brush at varying distances from the holder or attachment, while at the same time the latter may be adjusted and set to hold the stick at varying angles.
The drawing is a perspective View of my device.
1 is the handle; 2, a ferrule sitting on the upper part thereof, provided with ears 3 3. Held between these cars is a lug 4,; pivoted by pin and provided with an upper tube 6, slightly conical or tapered in its bore and provided with a set-screw 7.
8 is a set-screw piercing one of the ears 3 to set lug 4 for different angles of the brushes.
9 is an arm set upon lug 4 and provided with a screw-thread to engage in a female screw-thread in the butt 10 of brush 11.
12 is a brush-stick carrying brush 13 and is adjustable in tube 6 by means of set-screw 7.
14 15 are arms set in opposite sides of the movable part of the attachment.
16 is a cord the respective ends of which are attached to the ends of arms 14 15, this cord being looped below around a grooved pulley 17, which is set on handle 1 By 1oosening set-screw 8 the brush in use may be thrown to any angle with handle 1for instance, to that shown by the dotted lines.
ings which are above or below the position of the operator, and by loosening set-screw 8 the angle of the brush-holder may be changed at will by moving the cord 16. WVe cast the arm 9 upon and in one piece with the lug 4. Of course the styles and characters of the brushes may be changedto wit, good and bad characters.
hat we claim as new is- The combination of ferrule 2, adapted to receive a handle, 1, and provided with ears, 3, 3 and set-screw, 8; lug, 4, pivoted between said ears and provided with an arm, adapted to receive and hold a brush side arms, 14, 15 set upon opposite sides of the movable part of the attachment and adapted to be actuated by a cord, 16; the respective ends of which may be attached to them, all arranged and operating, substantially as and for the purposes described.
