Application filed September 23, 1918.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ORviLLn M. Bnoon, a citizen of the United States, and a resi dent of the city oi Chicago, county of Cook, and State of lllinois, have invented certain new and use'iul lmprovements in Combined Collar-Button and Tie-Eilips, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combined collar button and tie slips, and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this character adapted prevent binding of the tie in an ordinary turn-over collar.
@ther objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements or parts hereinai'tcr described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure l, is a perspective view of a collar with portions broken away and illustrating a construction embodying the invention in position of use,
Fig. 2, an enlarged section taken on line 2 of Fig. l, and
Fig.5. 3, a perspective view of the construction detached.
The preferred form of construction, as shown in the drawings, is made from a single strip of sheet metal having one end enlarged to form a button head 4, said strip being bent and er; ended thence outward y and then downwz lly and then outwardly and upwardly to term a depending loop 5 open. at the top, the free end of said loop terminating opposite the button head ln use, "the construction may be first placed in position on the collar, the button head 5 being slipped forwardly through the buttonhole thereoi and the tie 6 adjusted in the collar and sliding through the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 12, 1921.
Serial No. 255,290.
then adjusted to position about the neck of the wearer, the button head 4 being first slipped through the rear buttonhole of the neck band 9 of the shirt. T hen the front ends of the collar are secured to the front collar button in the usual manner, and the tie (3 tied or arranged in the usual manner, the loop 5 holding the flap 7 from binding contact and permitting of the ready and free adjustment oi" the tie.
Or, if desired, the construction may be first placed and left in the rear button hole of the neck band oi": the shirt, and the collar and tie secured and adjusted thereto when desired.
While have illustrated and described the pretererd form or construction for carrying my invention into eilect, this is capabio of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention.
1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope ot the appended claim.
' Having described my invention, what claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A collar button made from a single strip of sheet metal, said strip being provided at one end with an enlarged depending button head of greater width than the width of the body of said strip and said strip being bent from the upper edge of said head, outwardly, then downwardly, then outwardly, then upwardly the end of said last mentioned upwardly extending portion ter urinating opposite said button head and be ing extended outwardly to rest against the outer fold of a turnover collar, substantially as described.
in testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two bscribing witnesses.
