7 Application filed "June imaioe.
To all whom it may concem j 'Be it. known that I, EUGENE SCHNEIDER, a citizen of the Republic of France, residlng at 42 rue dAnjou, Paris, France, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in vlded Wltha conlcal surface wh1ch is adapt- Recoil-Brakes for Guns, which inventionis full set forth" in the following specification.
T e present invention relates to improvements in recoil brakes for gunssuch as described and claimed in my earlier application for U. S. Patent filed June 16, 1919, Serial No.'304=,655,and more particularly to improvements in the constructional form of brake' wherein the moderator valve is mounted on a liner and is adapted toreceiye a longitudinal movement from the fluid pressure.
Figures drawings illustrate the invention in longitu made fast to a fixed part of the as the gun cradle F. Within the piston cyl- 7 dinal section taken along the. axis of the brake cylinder; the parts being shown Fig. 1 in the positions they occupy at the.
commencementof the minimum recoil.
Fig. 2 shows the parts in the positions they occupy during the running-out movementof the gun. Referring to the drawings, A is a brake cylinder attached to a reco1lin%part of the v and carries acounter-rod A piston cylinder D provided with a pistonihead is located within the brake cylinder and 11s 11 suc inder is a tube or liner D the forward end of which is provided with a square tenon J supported in. a hollow axle adapted to be'rotated by -means of a sector, j
which may be actuated by the elevating movements of the gun. The tenon and axle space are so proportioned as to permitslight longitudinal movement of the liner. p more valve openings 01" are provided in the wall of the liner adaptedto communicate with piston passages 6 through anopenlng e in the piston cylinder when brought into registry with the latter opening by rotatlon of the liner. D is an extension of the liner and has a threaded engagement with the rear end of the piston cylinder D in which abutment against the flanged end'of a dia- 'is piercedwith openings g,'g. Small passages 3' in the bearin enlargement com I and 2 of the accompanying One or phragmG in the rear endof thelinerjex ed'to-seat on acorrespondingly shaped sur face J formed on an enlargement ;,.ofthe mmonium, salmon, essienortaro;scrtnnrnnniaicin; on'rirnrs, j FRANQE LI I ED.ironvtr-s'rocxconnnnxor hollow axle J The end wall of the liner municate with groove 2 and the space out-l side the liner'DQ Passages 2 in the wall'o-fthe piston cylinderpermit communication between the brake cylinder space and the pistoncylinderrand space in front of the counter-rod.
When the brake is. set for minimum recoil as shown in Fig. 1 on recoil, the fluid pressure inthe brake space a overcomes'the spring pressure on valve H andfluid passes to space a through the passages 6 until the pressure on the valve H counterbalances the recoll pressure. During recoil, fluid also.
passes through orifice 2 into-the piston space around the liner D, and through passages J into the axle space where it acts on the end of the tenon J to unseat the valved freely enter intothe liner space in front of the counter-rod as the latter withdraws dur-' ing the recoil.
On the gun being runout again into firing position,"the liquid forced back by the i i counter-rod B, will press the liner- D against the seat J 3 and open passages e to 1 the space a,;while'it will flow slowly from the end of the liner toward the rear chamber a of the brakecylinder, thereby producing in the usual manner the braking of coiling part of the gun and provided with end of the liner and permits-the fluid to V v a counter rod, a piston cylinder therein fast to a stationary part'of the gun mount and provided with a brake piston having spring pressed valve controlled. passages for minimumrecoil and other valve controlled passages-for maximum recoil, alongitudinally movable and Tevoluble liner tube for receiving said counter rod and provided with a orifices adapted to register with said last named pistonpassages, a perforated end 1101 a closure for saidliuer provided wi 'tiia uaIve surface, a revoluble hollow-bearing having a valveseaxt for saidljneri valve; a key meme her on said and; closure received? by: said bearing and passages in said [seat and ky member communicating with thepi'sfifi 'cyfind er space and with the hollow bearing space whereby said passages i11 the'1jine r-a;1te cqvgred duriug running out qf the by onthe'elidnodis ai key member.
