Be it known that I, OTTO lVnLcoMn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State -of Illinois, have invented new and useful linprovements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.

This invention comprehends the provision of a toy wherein a bicycle is employed and arranged to be moved in a circular course upon a stationery base, and bells or other noise making devices arranged to be mounted simultaneously with the movements of the bicycle, the latter being equipped with a toy figure indicative of a rider.

In carrying out the invention, T aim to simplify the construction of toys of this character providing a novel construction of means for propelling the bicycle upon the base, while the relative arrangement and disposition of the component parts is suoli that a toy is produced which will prove both interesting and amusing to the young folks.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawings forming part of this specification, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of the toy constructed in accordance,n with my invention.

The toy forming the subject matter of my invention essentially consists of a base from the center of which rises a stub shaft 11. This shaft supports a sleeve 12 which is provided with a gear 13 horizontally disposed immediately above the base 10. The sleeve projects an appreciable distance above the stub shaft 11, and receives the adjacent extremity of a standard 14, the standard being secured to the sleeve in any suitable manner, preferably by means of a transverse pin 15. The standard 14 may be of any suitable height and supports a cross arm 16 at the upper end thereof. Depending from the arm 16 adjacent each end, is a bell 17 adapted to be sounded upon rotation of the standard 14 in a manner to be hereinafter described. Arranged at right angles to the standard 14 is a shaft 18, which is journaled 1n a casing 19 which houses a spring motor, the spring ofwhich is indicated at 20. This shaft 18 projects beyond the opposite sides of the casing and supports a gear 21 :which meshes the gear 13. Secured to the opposite end o f the shaft 18 is a finger piece 22, for winding the spring in the usual well known manner. Y

'The horizontally disposed bar 23 is terminally secured in any suitable manner, to the standard 14, this bar being secured at its opposite end to a bicycle or the like indicated generally at 25. The rods provide a connection between the standard 14 and the bicycle so that the latter is moved over a circular course upon rotation of the standard 14. A ligure of any suitable character indicative of the rider of the bicycle is mounted upon the latter, this figure being indicated at 26. in practice, the spring is tightened as above described, and the motor put into operation. Patented lykgg i the gear 22 which in turn rotates the gear 13 and the standard 14.V As the latter rotates, the bicycle is moved over a circular course upon the base 10 and upon movement of the bicycle in this manner, the bells or other noise making devices indicated at 17, are sounded. The toy in its 'entirety is simple in construction and readily and easily Y put. into operation by simply winding the spring the construction and arrangement of parts producing a toy which will prove highly interesting and amusing to young folks.

While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, l desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself in this connection and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is A toy comprising a base, a stud shaft rising centrally therefrom and fixed to the base, a standard reposing upon said shaft, a sleeve embracing said parts and bridgin the joints betweeen the shaft and standar said `sleeve being fixed toeaid standard, a gear carried by the sleeve, a motor mounted on the base and including zi gear meshing with the first mentioned gem? to rotate the standard, a cross arm carried by the uppei' end of the standard, sounding devices suspended from said cross arm, a horizontally disposed rod projecting from the standard at a point in its length, and a member conneoted With the outer end of the rod for 10 movement uponA the base in a circular course upon rotation of said standards.
