PHONOGRAIPH GABINET;
Specification of Letterslatent.
Patented Mar.1 5, 1921. 1
Applicationfiled April 18, 19-18.; Serial No. 229,332. i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES W. STER- LING and JOHN J. RETTLER, citizens of the United States, residingatAppleton, in the county of Outagamie and State of Wlsconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Phonograph-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in furniture and it is the principal object of the invention to provide a novel form of phonograph cabinet which is of such con- 'struction as will permit the rotating of the phonograph receiving compartment and'the record receiving compartment to any desired position and independently of each other should it be desired, thus rendering the same exceedingly convenient and enabling the direction of travel of sound to be varied as desired and at the same time permitting independent adjustment of the receiving compartment to afford access thereto.
The improvements in the details and arrangement of parts will be apparent from an inspection ofthe accompanying draw-' ings, in connection with the specific description hereinafter contained, and wherein the preferredembodiment of the invention is disclosed for the purpose of imparting a full understanding of the same.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the improved cabinet,
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a similar view 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Having more particular reference to the drawings, in connection with which like reference characters will refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 represents the base of the cabinet, the same having suitable casters 2 arranged upon the under side thereof for an obvious purpose and being octagonal in shape. Supported upon the upper side of the base 1 is an octagonal bearing shelf or table 3 which is adapted to be engaged by the outer marginal portions of a similarly shaped cabinet 1; said cabinet having a depending pivot pin 5 secured to the bottom portion thereof centrally of the same and engaged with the central portion of the base 1. In this connection, it is of course to be understood that the cabinet 1 may be and preferably is provided taken on the line witlia suitable ofdoorfisupported by vertically disposed hingesin' order that accesscan be had to theinterior thereof for variouspurpjosesj 1 Arranged upon the upper side of the top of the rotatable cabinet 1 is a second octagonal supporting shelf or table 7 which is adapted to be engaged by the outer marginal portions of an octagonal phonograph receiving receptacle or compartment 8, which as willbe noted carries a centrally located pivot pin 9 upon its bottom,'said pin being engaged in a suitable bearing formed con- 7 trally of the top of the cabinet 4. The casing 8 is provided with a suitableform of cover or closure 10 whereby the same may be effectually closed when not in use.
It may be here noted, that shelves or the conditions or preference may dictate in order that records or like matter may be stored in indexed order therein.
- From the foregoing, it will be readily understood by persons skilled in the art that we have provided an exceedingly simple and eflicient form of phonograph cabinet, which by reason of its peculiar construction may have either of the compartments thereof rotated either independently or collectively to any desired position. Thus, it will be understood that the casing 8 can be varied in position in order that the direction of sound may be transmitted to any desired point. Further, the cabinet 4 may be ro-'90 tated to a point convenient to the operator or user in order that records may be removed or placed therein.
If desired, roller bearings may be arranged in those portions of the compart- ,95 ments 4 and 8 having engagement with the tables 3 and 7 in order that the same may be 3 freely turned; this being clearly within the Y scope of theinvention.
As above indicated, we do not wish to be understood as confining the invention to'the particularembodiment chosen for illustration herein, nor to the exact construction, arrangement and adaption of parts shown and described, but we reserve the right to make any changes and alterations that fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention. 3 v 7 We claim:
A device of the prising a base, an octagonal supporting table positioned upon the base, a centrally character described com- 1 disposed socket carried by the table, a'record net, a second octagonal table arranged upon the topof the cabinet; a socket carried by the second table, anda phonograph receiving receptacle supportedupon the second table provided With a short pivotpin rea short pivot pin care cabinet for moyement a spacing sleeve for said pin between the base and bottom of thecabiceived within the second mehtioned s ocl'iet to rotatably support. the receptacle, a spacing sleeve for "said last named pin between the top of the cabinet and receptacle, said cabinet and receptacle being independently 'movable to permit the sound outlet of the phonograph and the door of the" cabinet to be moved into Various angular positions.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures hereto.
