Description

PATENT QEEICE.
WILLIAM H. ALCOBN, OF WEST HOBOKERNEW `JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHILDRENS SWINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,12 l, dated March 25, 187.3.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. ALOOEN,
of West Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful 4Improvement in Ghilds Oscillating Carriage, of which the following is a speciication Figure l is a side view of my improved oseillating carriage, partly in section to` show the construction. Fig. 2 is a detail section of the same taken through the line :c .fr of Fig. l.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved toy for children which shall be so constructed that a child sitting upon its seat and pulling upon a lever can give the seat an oscillating movement. The invention consists of the combination of the levers and connecting-rods with the stationary frame and with the seat-or carriage suspended by pivoted bars or cranks from said frame, as hereinafter fully described.
A are two side boards, connected at their front and rear ends by cross-bars so as to form the stationary frame. The upper and middle parts of the side boards of the frame A may be cut away, as shown in Fig. l, to give said frame a more ornamental appearance. To the upper parts of the frame A are pivoted the upper ends of the rods B, which pass downward, and are pivoted to the lower ends of the legs G, the upper ends of which are se curely and rigidly attached to the seat or carriage D. The pivoting rods B at the front and rear may be made in one piece, and in the form of a double crank, as shown in Fig. 2. Bv this construction the seat or carriage D While oscillating will always have a horizontal position, or nearly so. To the sides of the seat or carriage D are pivoted the rear ends of the connecting-rods E, the forward ends of which are pivoted to the levers F, the lower ends of which are pivoted to the lower forward ends of the frame A. The upper ends of the levers F may be so formed as to resemble horses heads, and may be provided with straps or reins G extending back to the seat so that the child byvpulling upon the reins may give an oscillating movement to the seat or carriage. The levers F may, if desired, be arranged at the sides of the seat or carriage D, so that the straps Gr will not be required.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent- The combination of the levers F and pivoted connecting-rods E with the stationary frame A and with the seat or carriage D suspended by pivoted bars or cranks B from said frame A, substantially as herein shown and described.
