To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARK B. DEWEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sidney Center, in the county of Delaware and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toy Carts, of which the following is a specification.

This invention is an improved toy cart or hobby horse, the object of the invention being to provide an improved article of this character which embodies a pivotally mounted head adapted for angular movement in a vertical plane to simulate the tossing of a horses head and so constructed and arranged as to normally mov forwardly and downwardly, by gravity, and provided with lines by which it can be turned rearwardly, to produce the desired motion; another object of the invention being to effect improvements in the construction of the toy so that the same can be readily manufactured at small cost.

The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of a toy cart or hobby horse, constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention.

Fig. 3 is a detailed transverse sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line 33 of Fig. 1.

In the embodiment of my invention I provide a reach member or bar 1 which is fash ioned to form a seat 2 at the rear end, the front end of the reach member being rounded as at 3.

A rear truck at is provided which is here shown as comprising a broad standard or leg, the upper end of which is secured under the seat 2, a block 5 being arranged in theangle between the standard and the seat and being secured thereto.

The front truck 6 comprises a broad standard or leg, to the upper end of which is secured an arm 7 therear portion of said arm bearing under the front end 3 of the reach member and said front truck being pivotally connected tothe reach member by means of a screw or king bolt 8. A block 9 is secured on the rear side of the stand ard or leg 6 and is arranged in the angle between the same and the rear portion of the arm 7 The arm extends forwardly and is provided with a vertical longitudinal slot 10 the front end of which is open. Flange bars 11 are secured on the upper side of the arm and at opposite sides of the slot 10.

A figure 12, which is here shown as forming a horses head 13 and neck 14 is arranged with the lower portion of the neck in the slot 10 and is plvotally mounted in the arm 7, the pivot 15 being arranged near the rear lowercorner of the figure so that the figure by its own weight tends to move forwardly and downwardly. In its under side, near its front end, the figure is provided with a slot 16, which is open at the lower side. A stop pin 17 passes through the arm 7 and extends across the slot 10 and is arranged to engage in the slot 16 to limit the downward and forward movement of the figure or head. Lines 18, here shown as formed by a cord, are attached to the horses head by being passed through openings 19, the lines extending rearwardly so that they can be readily grasped by a child seated on the toy. The child by pulling rearwardly on the lines correspondingly moves the head and by slackening on the lines the head by its own gravity will fall forwardly and downwardly, and hence by repeatedly pulling on and slackening the lines the child can cause the head to simulate the tossing movements of the head of the horse.

WVhile I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts, without departing from the spirit of my invention and within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim 7 1.
