HVIPRQVEMENT iN PLOW-CLEVISES.
Specification forming part of Letters 'Patent No. 137,'7'S, dated March 25, 1873.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST KAUFMAN, of Davisville, Yolo County, State of California, have invented an Improved Plow-Clevis and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawing are sufficient to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which it most nearly appertains to make and use my said invention or improvement without further invention or experiment.
`My invention relates to an improved elevis by which thezdirection oi draft can be shifted readily without stopping the team.
In order to more fully illustrate and explain my invention reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this speciiieation, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view o the plowframe and elevis.
A B O are three parallel plates or bars of metal ofthe desired strength. rIlhe two bars A B form the supporting-beams to which the plows D E are secured, and the other on C forming an outside support for the wheel F. The metal beam A forms the inner side of the l plow-frame, and its forward end is bent at the front end I of which is bent t0 a U sha-pe so as to clasp the draftbar above and below, in which position it is secured by a bolt passing through the rod and draft-bar. The rear end ofthe bar o is bent upward so as to pass above the rack m, and form a lever by which the position of the elevis can be changed. By shifting the lever in either direction along the rack the elevis will be given an opposite direction or draw so as to give the plow more or less land, as desired, and this can be done without stopping the team.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The elevis o, with its lever-handle c, in cornbination with the rack m, substantiallyas and for the purpose described.
