Description

MARY moeomn WILSON, or ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA.
PROCESS OF MATERIAL FOR REDUCING FATTY TISSUE.
No Drawing T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARY MCGUIRE VVIL- SON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Alameda, county of Alameda," and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Process of and Material for Reducing Fatty Tissue, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a process of and a material for reducing the fatty tissue of the human body.
An object of the invention is to provide a process for reducing the fatty tissue of the body without injury to the skin or the organic system.
Another object of the invention is to provide a material which, when applied properlyto the skin, will reduce the fatty tissue beneath the skin.
The invention will be set forth in the following specification where I shall outline in full, the material of my invention and the method of its use in reducing fatty tissue,
' but it is to be understood that I do not limit of my invention to the body in a manner to person to perspire freely.
be set forth hereinafter. The material of my invention consists substantially of the following ingredients, preferably in the proportions given.
Alum 12 ounces by weight,
Camphor 2 ounces by weight,
Alcohol 12 ounces by liquid measure,
Witchhazel 32 ounces by liquid measure.
The alum and the camphor are first powdered veryfine and then mixed and agitated with the alcohol, which dissolves the camphor andv some of the alum. The mixture is then allowed to stand for a short time, approximately thirty minutes, and the witchhazel is then added. Some of the very finely divided alum is not dissolved and in use, the solution should be shaken frequently to keep the undissolved alum in suspension.
The solution may be applied to the skin either warm or cold. Before applying the solution, the person is given a hot tub or vapor bath to open the pores and cause the The solution is then applied to a portion of the body and Specification of Letters Patent.
that portion is then Patented Mar. 1, 1921.
Application filed February 19, 1919. Serial No. 278,005.
whipped or spanked w1th the firigers to drive the solution into the pores.' sk1n, that is, subjecting it to impact, in distinction to rubbing, is essential to secure the most effective results. The whipping of have found that whipping the the skin produces an increased blood circulation in the tissue below the skin and drives the solution into the skin, andthe action of the solution and the impact causes a reductlon of the fatty tissue. After the solution has been driven into the skin, the skin is rolled and then another application of solution is made and whipped into the skin with the fingers. This step may be repeated several -t1mes and then the portion of the body treated is sponged with water to remove an remaining alum from the skin.
Thea um in the solution acts as an astringent to constringe theorganic tissue, but its continued use causes an increase of the blood supply and an increase of secretion in the tissue. This process contemplates repeated applications of the solution at time intervals, so that the stated effect of the alum is obtained. The action of the camphor is that of a stimulant and irritant, causing increased blood circulation and secretion, and also overcomes the initial effect of the alum to diminish blood supply and secretion due to its astringent action. The alcohol serves as a solvent for the cam phor and also stimulates the blood circulation and the witchhazel exercises a soothing effect on the skinand prevents irritation thereof by the camphor.
The solution, applied at intervals, in accordance with the process outlined above, is very effective in reducing fatty tissue. By promoting secretions, the fatty tissue is reduced and the increased circulation tends to return the parts to their normal condition.
I claim:
1. A material for application to the skin for reducing fatty tissue, comprising a solution of finely divided alum and camphor in alcohol and witchhazel. v
2. A material for application to the skin for reducing fatty tissue, comprising a solution in alcohol and witchhazel of alum and camphor in substantially the proportions of alum twelve ounces, camphor two ounces, alcohol twelve ounces and witchhazel thirty-two ounces.
3.--The prowess of reducing fatty tissue, which consists ininducing perspiration, applying .to-the skin" ,a solut on of finely divided alumand daniphor'in alcohol and 5 witch hazel, and manually working the solution into the wet skin.-
4. A material for application to the skin for redueing fetty tissue, oomprising a solution of finely divided-alum and camphor in an alcoholic vehicle. 10
In testimony-whereof, I have hereunto set my hand attvSanFrancisco, California, this 12th'da of-Febi'ua 1919.
