vented certain new and useful Improvements in Containers for Cedar Shavings, of which the following isarspecification.
My invention relates generally to boxes and particularly to a container for cedar shavings or the like which is comparatively small to permit of its being placed in a trunk 'or other-clothes receptacle for preventing moths from attacking the clothes.
A purpose of my invention is the provision of a container of the above described character which will allow of the exposing of the cedar shavings to the air while at the same time preventing the shavings from being displaced from the container. It is also a purpose of my invention to provide a container which comprises sections so interfitted as to eliminate the use of nails or other fastening members for securing the sections together.
I will describe one form of container embodying my invention and will then point out the novel features thereof 1n claim. Y
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view showing in perspective one form of container embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail view showing the inner side'of one of the end sections.
Fig. 4 is a detail fragmentary view showplan a portion of one of the end members.
7 Referring specifically to the drawings, in which similar reference characters refer to similar parts, S and S designate the side sections of the container which as shown to advantage in Fig. 2 are provided upontheir confronting faces with longitudinally extending grooves 15 and 15, the upper grooves 15 of which coact to slidably receivea foraminous top section T while the lower grooves 15 coact to slidablyreceive a bottom section B. The sections S and S are connected at their ends by end sections E and E'. As shownin Fig. 3, each end section E or E is provided on its inner side with vertically extending grooves 16' and horizontally extending grooves 17, all of such grooves being formed at the marginal edge of the section in such manner as to provide flanges 16 and 1?, respectively.v
As shown in Fig. 1, the opposite ends of each side section S or S are integrally formed witlrvertically' extending ribs 18 which are adapted to snugly fit within the vertical grooves 16 of the end sections E and E. It will be particularly noted that the ribs 18 are formed on the side sections E and E in such manner as to provide a shoulder 19 at one side of the ribs, such shoulder in the assembled position of the sections contacting with the flanges 16 of the end sections E and E.
The end sections E and E are permanently secured to the side sections S and S by inserting a film of glue between the confronting faces of the shoulders 19 and the parts 16*. Prior to the gluing of one end section to the side sections, however, thebottom section B is inserted into the grooves 15 with its opposite ends disposed within the horizontal grooves 17 of the end sections in such manner that the flanges 17 prevent outward lateral movement of the bottom section and thereby lock the same to the end and side sections.
After the bottom section has been placed in position, the foraminous top section T is now applied, it being readily insertible into the grooves 15 of the side sections and into the upper groove 17 of the end section. The container is now filled with cedar shavings as indicated at C in Fig. 2 whereupon the remaining end section is applied so that the adjacent end of the top section T extends into the upper groove 17 thereof, the adjacent end of the bottom section B extending into the lower groove 17 thereof, and the adjacent ends of the side sections extending into the vertical groove 16. In the present instance, the member T is formed of wire tion I have shown the foraminous member p of the appended claim. 4
'T formed of wire screen but it is to be understood that it may be formed of any suitable material which will permit the clrcula- 7 tion of air to and from the interior of the container. 7 Although I have herein shown and described only one form of container embodying my invention, it is to be understood that various changesv and modifications may be made herein without departing from the spirit of the invention or the spirlt and scope What claim is :-V A container of the character described comprising, side sections having grooves formed therein at corresponding oints, ribs formed on the opposite ends of said sections, end sections having their confronting sides formed with vertically extending grooves and horizontally extending grooves between and in a different vertical plane with respect 7 to the first grooves, a bottom section fitted;
within the groovesof the side sections, and certain of the horizontal grooves of the end sections, and a top section fitted within the grooves of the side sections and'within certainof the horizontal grooves of the end sec-.
, tions, said side and end sections being associated in such manner that the ribs fit with in the vertical rooves of the end sections. 7 J O N EDWARD TRACY;
