Be it known that I, PRENTIS E. LAW, 2. citizen of the United States, residing at Wilmette, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bead-Threaders, of which the following is a specification. 3

This invention relates to bead-threaders; and its object is particularly to provide a box for holding beads to facilitate beadwork.

In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated the invention in the form of a beadbox, referring to which Figure 1 shows the box with the cover removed. Fig. 2 shows the frame and filler separated. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the frame provided with side openings. Fig. 4: is a plan view of the top provided with side openings.

made of sheet-tin formed in rectangular shape to fit snugly against the ends and sides of the filler. As a means of securing the frame and filler together I preferably provide the filler with a slot or recess 15 to receive the inwardlyturned ends 16 of the frame. The top 17 of the box is provided with downwardly-turned ends and sides 18 to engage the sides and ends of the frame.

The box may be made of any shape and size desired and provided with one or more compartments 11; but to illustrate the invention for the particular use to which it is especially adapted I have shown the filler provided with four compartments and one side of the frame provided with a slit 19, extending through the upper edge of the frame at the end ofeach of said compartments.

In practice each of the compartments is filled with beads of a different color and the top being removed a needle is carried down in the slit Well into the beads in one compartment and pushed forward to pick up one or more beads. This operation can be repeated in each of the compartments and the beads dropped onto the thread. The box forms a convenient means for holding the beads and also greatly facilitates beadwork, for it will be found that the operation of picking up the beads in the manner described can be very rapidly performed. The top fits snugly in place on the box against the frame and partitions, and consequently the box can be carried around in awork-bag or in a pocket without danger of the different-colored beads in the different compartments becoming mixed. It will be apparent that this box can be 'sold as an independent article of manufacture, or, if desired, it can be sold filled with beads, for it forms a very convenient means for holding beads of different colors separated in independent compartments- If desired, the side of the frame opposite the slits may be provided with openings 20 and a strip of isinglass or other transparent material 21 can be sea cured between said side and the filler, so that the color of the beads in the several compartments may be clearly observed, while the top remains secured on the box, Fig. 3, or the top may be provided with openings 22 and a sheet of isinglass or other transparent material 23 suitably secured thereto for the same purpose, Fig. 3.

While the box is particularly adapted for holding beads, it will be apparent that it is equally adapted for holding other articles, and to this end various changes in and modifications of the form and proportion of parts may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages of the invention. For this reason I would have it understood that I do not limit my invention to this particular use nor to the particular construction and arrangement of parts herein described and illustrated, but reserve the right to make such changes in the form and proportion of parts as fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.

In the drawings the filler is provided with ends 24; but while this construction is desirable in a bead-box it is not absolutely necessary. The frame is preferably made of a single strip of metal shaped to snugly engage the ends and sides of the filler, and when the top, which fits closely against the frame'and the filler, is in place the beads or other articles in the compartment cannot move from-one compartment to the other. The box can be quickly and easily put together and for this reason can be manufactured at very low cost. The side openings can be provided in the side of the box, as shown in Fig. 3, or in the top 'of the box, as shown in Fig. 4, or in both side and top, if desired.

Without limiting myself to the exact construction and arrangement of parts herein shown and described, what'I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

3. A beadthreader box comprising a filler forming the bottom, and a frame inclosing the sides and ends of the filler and'detachaloly connected therewith and provided with a slit in its side extending through its upper edge.

4. A bead-threader box comprising a filler forming the bottom and partitions dividing the box into compartments and having a slit, and a frame formed of a single strip shaped to inclose the sides and ends of the box, said frame having its ends bent to enter said slit in the filler and provided with a slit extending through its upper edge at the end of each compartment.

5. A bead-threader box comprising a filler forming the bottom, and partitions dividing the box into compartments and having a slit, a frame formed of a single strip and shaped to snugly inclose the sides and ends of the box and having its ends bent inwardly to enter said slit and provided with a slit extending through its upper edge at the end of each compartment, and a top to fit on the box against the top edge of the frame and the partitions of-the filler.

6. A bead-threader comprising a box provided at one side with a slit extending through its upper edge and having an opening to disclose its contents, and transparent material covering said opening.
