Be it known that I, ARTHUR H. RICHARDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilkes-Barre, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothesline Attachments, of which the fol- This invention relates to clothes line attachments of the class embodying means for supporting a plurality of sections of clothes lines of the type ordinarily termed pulley lines and means for retaining the j garments in position thereupon.

The principal object of the invention-is to provide in conjunction with a plurality of sections of a clothes line of the type ordinarily termed pulley lines an attachment therefor for retainingthe garments thereupon'and for retaining and supporting the sections, one with respect to the other or others intermediate their ends in such a manner that one section may be moved with respect to the other or others in order to suspend garments in ordinarily inaccessible places such as would be the case if the lines were arranged from the tops of two adjacent buildings. 7 7

Another object of the invention is to construct an attachment of the above defined character wherein the sections of the clothes line and the garments suspended therefrom are held in position by spring action thus facilitating both the hanging of the garments and the positioning of the attachment upon the line.

A further object of the invention is to provide a clothes line attachment wherein a portion of the fixed line and garment retaining member or clamping jaw effects a closure for the opposed or movable line retaining member thus materially simplifying the construction of the device as well as increasing its eiiiciency.

With the above and other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in such details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the drawing, and claimed.

Similar characters of reference indicate like or corresponding parts in all the views of the drawing, referring to which A designates a portion of the upper section of a clothes line of the pulley type and B the lower section thereof; the termi nals of the sections are not shown, but it is pointed out that the line is trained over pulleys arranged either on suitable standards or from adjacent structures such as from opposite windows or roof caves of two separate buildings, and the lower section B is hung with garments while the upper section A is left unincumbered in order that movement of the line may be effected in the D is retained in place by the clamping action of the attachment which will be more fully described as the description proceeds.

Referring particularly to Fig. 2 of the drawing wherein the preferred embodiment is shown in detail, the attachment comprises an elongated body portion 1 having an enlarged laterally extending head 2, reinforced by means of a bolt 3 or other suitable reinforcing means, and having formed therein a rearwardly extending arm 4 lying parallel with the body portion 1 and disposed in spaced relation thereto for receiving aroller 5 mounted on a pin or axle 6 carried therebetween. The arm 4 extends somewhat beyond the roller 5 as at 4' to form a guard within which is received for engagement with the roller the upper section A of the clothes line. A leaf spring 7 is secured to the body portion 1 and has its free end engaged beneath the end of the extension 4 of the arm to prevent accidental displacement of the clothes lines from engagement with the roller 5.

Mounted on the front end of the body portion 1 adjacent to and rearwardly of the leaf spring 7 is a clamping jaw 8-held securely attached thereto and in clamping position by means of a coil spring 9 having embracing spring arms 10one arm extending beneath the body and the other over the jaw 40 thejaw8. 7' or V 'lhe modification illustrated in Fig.4conr as illustrated for purpose which is obvious. :The front end of the body 1 forms a fixed jaw for cooperation with the jaw 8.
