Description

No. 817,741. PATENTED APR.1'7, 1906. c. s. ARMSTRONG. CURTAIN POLE LIFTER.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 8, 1905.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CURTAIN-POLE LIFTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 1'7, 1906.
Application filed. June 8, 1905. Serial No. 264,332.
To all whom, it nuu concern:
Be it known that I, CLARA S. ARMSTRONG, a citizen of the United States, residing at C0- lumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Pole Lifters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that type of lifting devices designed to facilitate the opera tion of raising and lowering curtain-poles and having a lifting-head provided with pole-holding members to support the pole thereon as the same is either elevated or lowered in the actual use of the device.
The main feature of this invention resides in the simplicity of structure of the lifting- .manufactured and whereby the same 1s formed of maximum strength and rigidity.
An important feature of advantage of the invention is that the same may be used in narrow quarters and the lifting-head may be conveniently engaged with a curtain-pole irrespective of which side of the head is toward the same.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the lifting-head alone. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the liftinghead alone.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Specifically describing the invention, the same consists of the usual pole 1 embodied in devices of this class, said pole being of a length suitable for the purposes of the invention. At one end of the pole is disposed the lifting-head 2, and the same embodies a straight bar transversely enlarged at a point intermediate its ends toform a socket 3, in which the end of the pole 1 is received. The
end portions of the lifting-head 3 are pro vided with holders 4, and the latter are of approximately U form, having spaced extensions 5 equidistant from the bar or head 2, adapted to receive the curtain-pole therebetween so as to properly support the latter upon the head and prevent displacement of the same therefrom. The U-shaped holders 4 are integrally formed with the extremities of the lifting-head, this construction simplifying and cheapening the cost of the device materially as well as its practicability. The members 4 are quite a distance apart, and when the curtain-pole is in position upon the lifting-head the same will be held from slipping and may be raised or lowered as desired by the user. Further, the device is adapted to permit engagement of the lifting-head with the curtain-pole whether the pole be at either side of the lifting-head, and thus in small spaces it is unnecessary to reverse the head in order to engage the same with the pole under actual conditions of service.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, a curtainpole lifter composed of a pole, a lifting-head at one end of the pole and comprising a straight bar transversely widened intermediate its ends to form a socket receiving the end of the pole, the opposite extremities of the lifting-head being formed with integral U-shaped holders embodying spaced extensions equidistant from the point of connection of the holders with the head and adapted to receive a curtain-pole therebetween, the bottom of each holder being in the same plane as the upper surface of the straight bar of the lifting-head, whereby all strain is received on the head in the use of the device.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CLARA S. ARMSTRONG. [L. s]
