CHARLES Afr.' nor'naor iiviiiaiiiiroiiis nviimiv'ii..
ooLLAn-iairrroiif To aZZwwf/n t may concern.' c A Be it known that I, CHARLES T. BOYER, a citizen of thefUnited States, residingat lndianapolis, in the county oi' Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Collar-Button, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying` drawings and` to the letters and iigures `oli `reference marked thereon. .I
This invention relates to a device thatis designed for connecting a collar to the rear or back portion of a shirt, and the invention has reference more particularly to the type oi collar.' button that is designed so as to be unobstructive and adapted to either hold a neck-tie or to permit a neck-tie diierently arranged to vfreely slide thereon.`
; An object oi? .the` invention is an improved collar button which shall he so constructed as to be adapted to be used in either horizontal button-holes or in vertical button-holes and which shall be adapted to be used with comfortto thewearer. Another object is to provide an improved collar button which shall be adaptedV to hold neckties when worn on a standing 4'collar yfrom slipping up to the top of the collar, and' which shall be adapted also to permita neck-tie to freely slide thereon when worn A further object is to provide a collar button of improved construction which may be strongly formed oit a single piecev of which shall be thin so as to not cause the wearer pain nor be diiiicult to connect with garments, and which shall be simple and inexpensive yet be durable and economical in use. f
Withthe above-mentioned and other objects in view, the invention consists in an iinproved collar button having certain novel and useful features, and in thel structural improvements as hereinafter particularly described and further deined in the accompanying claims. Y Y
Referring to the drawings,-Figiire l is a perspective view illustrating the manner of using the improved collar button in connection with a turned-down collar; Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the neck band ot a shirt having the collar button connected thereto whereby to fasten a collar to the neck band; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of to provide Y sheet metal and i Y `Specncation of Letters Patent. Feb, Y Agpiitation inea April i4, wao. *sei-iai No. 373,805.
the improved collar button constructed `substantially in accordance with the invention;
l'f'unlrsnsrrss `AfrsNroFi=icEL Fig. d is a vertical sectionof a` shirt :neck
band ot ,familiar construction having the collar button connected therewith; Fig.` 5 is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating a standing collar on a neckband and the improved collar button `connected `therewith and holding a neck-tie in the desired position; Fig. 6 is a fragmentary elevation of a turnedfdown collar with a neck band and the 'improved collarbutton connected therewith, vand a neck-tie in association therewith, portions,being` broken away to, disclose other portions; and, Fig. 7 is asection approximately on the line VII-V11 inr 1,. Similar reference characters in the diii'erent figuresof the drawings indica-tecorrespending elements or features ci construction 'herein referred to in detail.` Y,
',n the drawings the upper portion of a garment 1, more particularly ashirt is illustratedin outline, andthe garment,V has a neck4 band `2 usually composed of several thicknesses of material and having an outer portion 3 that is not connected at its lowery edge to the main portion of the neck band, to permit a rear collar button to be inserted into the space behind the outer portion 3 which has a slot or button-hole 4: therein usually arranged horizontally so as to eX- tend longitudinally in the'neck band.V In some cases a turned-down `collar -is used vvwhich comprises a main portion 5 anda tion or anchor plate l0, and shank and` head portion, all formed of a single piece of metal. The base portion l0 is longer in yone direction than transversely and a shank ll extends from the middle portion ofthe lower edge thereof approximately at right angles to the face of the base portion. An improved button member comprises a body portion 12 that extends from the shank 11 at vapproximately right angles thereto,
neck 13 that is relatively narrower thanthe Y portion 12 and extends i'rom the terminal of said portion, and a head portion 14 that extends lfrom the neck and is relatively broader than the neck, beingapproximately as broad as the body portionlf. Thehead has a convex front or outer face 15 AthatexlV tends as at 16 to the neck 13, and preferably the head' portion has a concave back or 1n'- ner side 17. Preierablythe base or anchor plate 10 has projecting lingers 18 and 19 thereon .to prevent it from' being turnedV over accidentally when connecting aco'llar ftothe button or when in use. Y 'In practical usewhen the turned-dow collar is= required, iia the main portion V5 thereof has a vertical button-hole 7 the head V14: is forcedthrough the button-hole until the neck 18 is fairly in the button-hole which is permitted to partially close onthe neck without causing thek fabric aboutthe button-hole to "be distorted or puckered.
The neck-tie band 2O which is arranged between the two portions of the collar may be longitudinally adjusted`without Vit being caught and held Von the improved button,
' the head 14 being the only portion presented to the tie band, and the outer convex face 15 being against the tie'band permits the latter to slide freely thereon. In case av standing collar is required and if it has ahorizontal button-hole 9 the latter receives the shank 11, and the ktie band 21 may be readily placed'under the body portion 12'and the remainder of the button member and may be' readilyY shifted to the desired position.
vHaving thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- Y l. A collar button comprising an anchor plate,g a shank on the anchor plate, and a 'button member consisting of a flat body portion extending from the shank, a neck portion that is relatively narrower than the body portion extending from the bodyv portion, and a head portion that'is relatively broader thanl the neck portion extending from the neck portion, said head portion Y having a convex front face and aconcave rear face which extends to said neck portion. V2. A collar button comprising an oblong anchor plate, two fingers on one of the longer edges of the anchor plate adjacent to oppo-'f site ends respectively thereof, a shank on saidedge between said fingersand extending fromsaidedge at an angle to the Vface oi? said plate,.a flat body portion extending from the end oit'said shank and approximately parallel tothe plane of the front of said plate, a neck portion thatV is relatively narrowerthan said body .portion extending from said portion, and a headportionthat
