PATENT ()FFICE.
HARRY MARCUS, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
LEGGING.
Application filed November 16, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY Marcus, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have .invented certain new and useful Improvements in Leggings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention, such as will onable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in leggings and has for its primary object to provide a legging that will keep its shape and snugly fit the wearers leg, irrespective of the size or shape.
To the above end, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings,
Figure 1 is an outside view showing the improved legging on a wearers leg;
Fig. 2 is a view corresponding to Fig. 1, with the exception that it is an inside view;
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken through the legging on the irregular line 3-8 of Fig. 1;
Fig. d is an inside view of the legging spread out flat;
Fig. 5 is a vertical section taken on the line 55 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 6 is a detail view in transverse section taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 4.
The legging compris s an inner member 7 and an outer member 8, said members being provided with linings 9 and 10, respectively. These two members, together with their linings, are cut from a piece of cloth or other fabric from patterns so designed, that when the longitudinal edges of said members and linings are joined together by stitching. the legging is given a shape that will snugly fit the wearers leg and shoe.
In the drawings, the wearers leg and. shoe are indicated by the numerals 11 and 12, respectively. Between the inner legging member 7 and its lining 9, is placed a fabric padding 13, preferably felt. Closely posi- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 262,768;
tioned rows of stitches 14 extend over the entire surface of the legging member 7 and connect its lining 9 and padding 13 thereto. These rows of stitches 14L are arranged in a novel and fantastic arrangement, as shown in Fig. 4:, to stiflen the inner member of the legging and also hold the same in the desired form, wherein it is transversely rolled, bulged at the center of the calf and ankle portions and contracted between these two points, as best shown in Fig.
The outer legging member 8 and its lining 10 are longitudinally divided and the back portions thereof have suiiicient width to afford a flap 15, which extends under the front portion of said outer legging member. Parallel reinforcing strips 16 and 17 are secured by stitches, the former to the front portion of the outer legging member 8, at the free longitudinal edge thereof, and the latter thereof is secured to the rear portion of said outer legging member, at the junc tion of the flap 15 therewith.
By reference to Fig. 1, it will be noted that the reinforcing strips 16 and 17 e:-: tend the full length of the legging and the lower end of the strip 17 is extended to form a loop 18, which passes under the shoe 12, just forward of the heel, and is secured by stitches to the bottom of the inner legging member 7 as shown in Fig. 2. The loop 18 is provided with a lining 19, which reinforces the same and also gives said loop a neat and finished appearance.
Longitudinally spaced hooks 20 are secured to the strip 16 and longitudinally spaced eyelets 21 are secured to the strip 17. Both the books 20 and eyelets 21 extend completely through the respective strips, legging and its lining and are clenched on their inner ends in the customary manner to secure the same in position. A. cord 22 is interlaced with the hooks 2Q and eyes 21 to connect the free longitudinal edges of the legging merit;
her 8.
By reference to Figs. 1 and 2, it will be noted that the outer and inner sides of the legging are dipped considerably, where the loop 18 is attached thereto, and the front and rear lower end portions of the legging are cut relatively high to permit free ankle movement, and thus avoid wrinkling or creasing of the legging.
The above described legging has, in actual usage, proven highly efhclent for the purpose had in View.
What I claim is A legging having substantially its entire inner face stitched in rows, certain of which extend substantially parallel to the outer edges of said inner face, and certain other of said rows extend diagonally from the tog t0 the bottom of the legging and cross in presence of two Witnesses.
