AM. PHoroinHosmPH/c co. Ammann/.s moet-ss) PATENT OFFICEf SAMUEL DUNLAP, OF ROME, GEORGIA.
menor/ement In SPRING BED-sorrows.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136,494, dated March 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL DUNLAP, of Rome, in the county ot' Floyd and State oi' Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spring Bed-Bottoms; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specilication.
This invention relates to improvements in spring bedbottoms designed to provide a simple, cheap, and effective arrangement of the same, and is of the character of an additional improvement upon the bed-bottom covered by Letters Patent No. 90,999, granted to me on the 8th day of June, 1869. It consists in the arrangement of vulcanized India-rubber springs upon-tension clasps and hooks at each end of the wood slats, the same being provided with notches at equal distances from each end, for tightening and holding the springs.
Figure l represents a plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation.
I propose to employT India-rubber straps, seven inches long, marked R, to be extended across the space between the frame longitudinally, and secured by hooks marked h, and clasps marked C. The said India-rubber straps R bear upon hooks h, and are so arranged as to be readily attached to or removed from the bedstead after it is put together. Each wood slat, marked S, is provided with notches, marked N, at each end to permit the I lidia-rubber straps to be tightened by extending the clasp O toward the center ot' Wood slat S, and to hold them under any preferred degree of tension.
The hooks It are screwed into the bottom rails of the head and foot of bedstead, and the clasps O hook over them and attach the springs and wood slats, and hold them firmly in their proper positions, making the whole as near bug-prooi' as possible.
This arrangement provides a simple and cheap spring-bed, which may be readily adjusted to any desired degree of elasticity.
The slats and springs are as easily attached and removed from the bedstead as ordinary wood slats. They are not connected one with the other, and no other slats or supports are required for the bedfbottom. f
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a-bedstead, of Indiaruhber straps R, Wood slats S, clasps G C', and hooks h, all substantially as specified.
This speciiicationesigned this 7th day of October, 1872.
SAMUEL DUNLAP. Witnesses:
