INDICATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 14, 1920.
Application filed. October 10, 1919. Serial No. 329,817.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR BEARIOKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Indicators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to indicators espe cially designed for use upon doors or windows of stores and other buildings, toindicate to the public whether or not the store is open for business.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an indicating sign or panel,
which may be reversed to display either face of the same without removal from its supporting bracket and thereby prevent misplacement.
A further object is the provision of novel means for connecting the sign or panel to the supporting bracket to permit of reversing the former so that either side may be presented to view.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary elevation showing the invention as used to indicate the place of business is closed.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the reverse side of the panel.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged end view of the invention per so.
Fig. 4 is a face view of the same.
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 3 showing the panel reversed.
Fig. 6 is a face view with the panel in the position shown in Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is a fragmentary edge view of the supporting arm or bracket.
Figs. 8 and 9 are difierentviews of one of the fingers which connect the supporting arm or bracket with the panel.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a door, which in the present showing is provided with a glass panel 11.
The invention which is designed to be secured to the inside edge of the door comprises a supporting arm or bracket 12, having at one" end an enlarged portion 13, which is provided with apertures 14: for the pits sage of screws, or similar fastening devices, for the purpose of securing the bracket in position. The supporting arm or bracket 12 is preferably provided with an offset portion 15, so that the main body portion thereof will be spaced from the panel 11 of the door.
Extending laterally from the supporting arm or bracket 12 are lugs 16, these lugs being spaced from each end of the bracket and 6 carrying laterally and downwardly extending curved fingers 17 which are provided at their extremities with a bar 18. This bar extends upon each side of the finger and provides a substantially inverted T shaped element. Secured to the fingers 17 is a slgn or panel 19, one side of which has imprinted or otherwlse secured thereon the Word Open and the opposite side the word Closed. Each end of the panel 19 is provided with a transversely disposed slot 20, which is closed at each end. Slots 20 are greater in length than the width of the panel 19, and in the formation of these slots each end of the panel is provided with an outwardly extended portion, into which the slots extend, the said portion being bent in curved formation so as to provide hook-like members 21. These hook-like members 21 form seats for the T heads at the extremities of the fingers 17, so that the panel will hang in the position shown.
Should the panel be in a position to expose the word Open, it may be reversed by raising the same and turning the panel, so that the bars 18 will rest in the seats at the opposite ends of the slots.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. The combination with a support, of a panel having transversely disposed slots at each end thereof, said slots terminating in laterally curved offset extensions and means carried by the support and engageable in said slots, whereby said panel may be reversed vvithout removing the same from the support. 1
2. The combination With a sup-port, of .a panel having transversely .anranged slots .at each end thereof, of rigid T-shaped members without removing :the same from the support.
In testimony whereof I affix my si nature.
ARTHUR BEARfoKs.
