Description

Feb. 4, 1941. A K, HElSEY 2,230,948
CURTAIN ROD BRACKET 0R HLDER Filed Sept. 20. 1938 Patented Feb.` 4, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in curtain rod brackets or holders.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a curtain rod bracket or holder in the form of a frame structure carrying a curtain rod bracket per se with the frame structure adapted for mounting on the upper corners of a window frame in a manner to eliminate marring of the window frame by the excessive use of nails, tacks,
or the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a curtain rod bracket or holder of the foregoing character wherein the frame structure carrying the curtain rod bracket per se is designed to fit the upper corners of a window frame with top and side ledges or beads overlying adjacent edges of the window frame with a single nail or tack driven through each bead of the frame structure to enter the top and sides of the window frame so that should it be necessary to remove the curtain rod bracket or holder, the face of the window frame will be unmarred.
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claitmed.
In the drawing: f
Figure 1 is a fragmentary front elevational view of the upper end of a window frame equipped with the curtain rod brackets or holders at the upper corners thereof,
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view Vof one of the curtain rod brackets,
Figure 3 is an edge elevational view o-f the bracket showing one upper and one vertical side bead or flange carried by the frame of the curtain rod bracket, 7
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail vertical sectional View taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1 showing the flange at the top of the bracket frame overlying the upper edge of the window frame with a nail anchoring the flange to the window-frame, and
Figure 5 is an enlarged detail horizontal sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 1 showing the side flange of the bracket frame overlapping the side of the window frame and secured thereto by a nail passing into the side of the window frame.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, the curtain rod bracket or holder is constructed for mounting on the upper right and left hand sides or corners of a window frame and the construction of each bracket is such that the upper corners ofthe window frame accommodate the mounting thereof. The curtain rod bracket as shown in Figure 1 is associated with the top rail I5 and side rails I6 of a window frame and 5 at the upper corners thereof, the bracket comprising a rectangular frame having upper and lower bars Il and I8 and side bars I9 and 20, the bars Il to 20 being of such size that the usual ornamental corners 2l of the window frame are 10 clearly exposed to view.
'I'he curtain rod bracket or holder at the upper left-hand corner in Figure 1 is shown in detail in Figures 2 to 5, the upper rail I 'I of the bracket frame carrying an offset flange 22 while a corre- 15 sponding oiiset flange 23 is carried by the outer side rails I9, the flanges 22 and 23 being of less width than the thickness of the rails of the bracket frame so that when the bracket frame is mounted on the corner of the window frame all 20 faces of the rails I l to 20 flatly engage the corner of the window frame while the flanges 22 and 23 extend over the edges of the top and vertical rails I5 and I6 of the window frame as shown in Figures 4 and 5. With the bracket frame so dis- 25 posed, a single nail 24 is driven through each of the flanges 22 and 23 by passing through the openings 25 in said flanges to enter the top and side of the top and vertical rails I5 and I6 of the window frame without in any manner marring 30 the face of the corner of the window frame. f
A relatively small rectangular plate 26 is carried by the meeting ends of the rails I8 and 20 at the inner lower corner of the bracket frame and the usual curtain rod supporting bracket pins 2l 35 are carried by said plate 2S, said pins 2l being carried by the usual metal plate 28 that is anchored to the bracket plate 26 by the screws 29.
A curtain rod and suspended curtains are illustrated by dotted lines by the reference numeral 40 30 in Figure 3.
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent, and while there are herein shown and described the preferred embodiments, it is to be understood that minor changes may be made therein, such as will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
I claim: 50
1. In a curtain rod bracket or holder, a bracket member adapted for flatly engaging the front face of an upper corner of a window frame, ilanges carried by two adjacent edges of the bracket member overlapping adjacent edges of said Window frame edges and curtain rod supporting means carried by the bracket member, the bracket member comprising a rectangular frame composed of bars and the said flanges carried by a pair of said bars, said curtain rod supporting means lcomprising a relatively small rectangular plate at one of the corners of the rectangular frame and curtain rod supporting pins mounted on said plate, said anges being adapted to center the position of the curtain rod supporting pins with respect to the window frame.
2. In a curtain rod bracket or holder adapted for attachment to a Window frame, wherein the `the Window frame for attachment to the sides of
