BACKGROUND or THE INVENTION p The instant invention relates to support brackets and, more particularly, those brackets adapted for mounting upon opposing walls of a window jamb.
Exemplary efforts within the prior art include such patents 'as those to 'Zet0, US. Pat. No.. 2,508,737 (1950') and" Burns, U.S. Patd'No. 2,57 9, '/ss'i( 1951 These patents, and others of their class, are directed to various combination brackets that may be u tilized to support various residential window accessories. However, a shortcoming within the prior art has-been the necessity for a handymari or carpenter to permanently nail or screw each of the prior combination brackets into the window jamb. Accordingly, it has notbe'en possible for a person unskilled in such areas, for exam-.
ple, a housewife, to secure a combination bracket-to a window without the need for outside assistancepAccordingly, the present invention is intended as a solution to'this problem in the prior art.
SUMMARY OF 'TI-IEINVENT-IGN a universal window accessory bracket capable of simultaneously supporting a window shade, a venetian blind head, and a curtain rod with its associated curtains or drapes.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS window bracket shown in association with a venetian.
blind.
FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view, taken along lines 66 of FIG. 5, of a left-hand single window bracket.
FIG. 7 is a perspective view of a left-hand single window bracket shown in association with a curtain and curtain rod.
FIG. 8 is a cross-sectional view, taken along line 88 of FIG. 7, showing the relationship between the stopholding element, the bracket proper, and the window stop.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Shown in FIG. 1 is a right-hand single window bracket 10, secured in the upper right hand corner 12 of a window jamb 14.
Said bracket-includes a means 16 for the securement of the right hand end of the axial support member of a window shade roller 18. (See FIGS. 1 and 2.) Saidmeans 16 will generally appear as a circular projection having a small centrally located opening therein.
The cross-sectionalview of FIG. 6 illustrates a means 24 for the securement of one end of a venetian blind" head' 26. 7 i v v l The right and left brackets 10 and '22 respectively are detachably s'ecured to the respective'right and left window stops 28(See FIG/8) ofthe window jamb 1'4. The stops 28 are disposed inwardly of the top and bottom window'sashes 30 and'32 respectively;
The detachable securement'of the brackets l0 and A 22 is obtained through the employment 'of a U-sha'ped member 34 having a flange 36 which is placedagainst a back edge 38 of the window stop 28. The said stop 28 is transverse to the plane of the window jamb 14. (Also, see FIG.2). V j
oncommitantly with the use of the member 34, an L'shs ed member 40 (See FIG. 3 is placed against the opposite side of'the stop 28. It is to be noted that sharpened edge 41 of said member 40 is pressed into the crack 43 which defines the separation between the stop and the jamb 14. This serves to hold the member 40 in its proper position.
A threaded bolt 42 (See FIGS. 2 and 8) serves to connect member 40 with area 44 of bracket 22. Area 44 comprises a partof the U-shaped bracket 34. By manually turning the threaded bolt 42 member 40 is forced away from area 44 and pressed toward the flange 36, thereby securedly clamping the complete window accessory support system to the stop 28. Hence, the bracket 22, and its corresponding right hand bracket 10, may be easily affixed to a window jamb without the use of nails, screws or other permanent securement means. Resultingly, the brackets 10 and 22 may be readily installed by any unskilled person, for example, a housewife, without the need for outside assistance and, also, without damaging the ap pearance of the stops of a window jamb.
Shown in FIG. 4 is a left hand mullium element [7. Such mullium elements are intended for use in association with double windows.
The mullium elements differ from the left and right hand brackets 10 and 22 only in that they are not equipped with the Venetian blind holding element 24 (which is shown in FIG. 6). Accordingly, it is to be appreciated that brackets 10 and 22 need not necessarily have the same distance of separation between elements 20 and 42 that is shown in FIG. 2.
It is to be noted that the present brackets may be provided with appropriate ornamental surfacing in order to enhance their visual and, therefore, customer appeal.
It is thus seen that the objects enumerated in the Summary of the Invention have been efficiently obtained by the above described embodiments of the present invention. While there have been herein shown and described the preferred embodiments of the present invention, it will be understood that the invention may be embodied otherwise than as herein specifically illustrated or described and that within said embodiments certain changes in the detail of construction, and the form and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the underlying idea or principles of this invention within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, useful, and non-obvious, and accordingly, secure by Letters Patent of the U.S. is:
