CLAMP-TERMINAL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 14, 1920.
Application filed February 5, 1919. Serial No. 275,182.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATHEW A. ALLISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oanebrake in the county of McDowell, and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamp-Terminals, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to a clamp terminal for motors resistance, the purpose being to provide a device of this character which may be readily applied to or disconnected from the part to which it is to be applied and which enables the terminal of a lead wire to be positivey connected thereto in a manner to provide for ready detachment of the terminal when required without necessitating the displacement of the clamp.
The drawing illustrates a preferred embodiment of the invention. However, it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions, various changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure l is a plan view of a clamp terminal embodying the invention.
Fig. 2 is an edge view.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-8 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows, the dotted lines indicating the relative position of the removable jaw.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in the several views of the drawing by like reference characters.
The clamp terminal comprises an elon gated body 1 through which is formed an opening 2 for receiving the end or terminal of a lead wire 3 which is retained in place by means of set screws 4 which are threaded into a side of the body 1. A fixed jaw 5 is provided at one end of the body 1 and has an inner projection 6 at its extremity. A removable jaw 7 is detachably connected to the opposite end of the body 1 by means of a screw 8 or other suitable fastening means. The jaw 7 is provided at its outer end with an inner projection 9 which coacts withthe projection 6 to secure the clamp in position. The jaw 7 is preferably resilient so as to possess a certain degree of spring action and thereby prevent any possible loosening of the clamp when in position.
When the clamp is in position the end of the rectangular grid G is gripped between the jaws 5 and 7, the degree of gripping action being determined by the screw or fastening 8. After the clamp is made secure in the required position the terminal of the lead wire 3 may be connected thereto or detached therefrom without requiring the clamp to be disturbed.
The foregoing description and the drawing have reference to what may be considered the preferred, or approved, form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts,
materials, dimensions, et cetera, as may,
prove expedient and fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A clamp terminal, comprising an elongated body having an opening therethrough and provided with a fixed jaw having an inner terminal projection, a resilient jaw extending substantially at right angles to the body and of greater length than the fixed jaw detachably connected to the end of the body opposite the fixed jaw and a set screw threaded into a side of the body for retaining a conductor in place therein.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MATHEW A. ALLISON.
