Description

W. H. GLENN.
MOP.
APPLICATION FILED IUNEZS, I920.
Patented Nov. 30, 1920.
UNITED STATI-:s PATENT OFFICE.
' WILLIIAM'H. GLENN, 0F EL PASO, TEXAS.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, VILLIAM a citizen of the United States, residing at El Paso, in the county of El Paso and State of rllenas', have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mop attachments for brooms.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which may be readily attached to the broom and maintained in position thereon.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which is simple in Vconstruction and includes novel means for preventing lateral shifting when in place on the broom. Other objects and advantages will be apparent throughout the course of thefollowing` description.
In the drawings, wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout,
Figure l is a perspective view of the device attached to a broom.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the device detached. Y
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the lower portionV of the attachment, and v Fig. t is a perspective view of one of the mop element attaching strips and securing strings.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose GLENN,
of illustration is shown a preferred embodi ment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the body portion of a broom of ordinary construction, provided with the usual handle 6. tion 7, preferably of heavy fabric, having a front portion 8 and rear portion 9. `The front and rear portions 8 and 9 are tapered, decreasing in width upwardly to correspond generally with the shape of the broom. The front portion 8 is somewhat-wider than the rear portion 9 and is provided nearY its upper end with an opening 10 adapted tov receive the handle 6 of the broom. The opening 10 is preferably provided with a binding strip 11, stitched to the front portion 8.
' its upper ends with The rear portion 9 is substantially shorter than the front portion 8 and is provided at a pair of attaching strings 12 stitched thereon. The strings or tapes 12 are preferably attached to the rear broom, as shown in Fig. 1.
My invention includes abodypor-l -i Mor.
I Patented Nov. 30, 1920.
nppiication inea .nine 2s, 1920. serial Nc. 392,119.
erably of strings arranged vertically of thev body portion and 'attached thereto b means of parallel strips 14, stitched to t e body portion 7 substantially centrally of the mop elements.
One of the mop element attaching strips 15 is provided with a comparatively short end 16 extending beyond the edge of the body portion. The opposite end of the attaching strip 15 is looped at 17 to pass around the edge of the broom and has an elongated end 18 adapted to extend across the opposite side of the broom. The end 18 of the attaching strip l5 is preferably passed beneath the strands of one of the mop elements, as shown in Fig. 3.
In attaching the device to a broom, the opening l0 is slipped over the end of the broom handle and dropped down to contact the upper end of the body portion of the The rear portion 9 is then passed around the lower end of the broom and up on the opposite side thereof, whereupon the strings 12 may be passed around the broom handle and tied, as shown in Fig. 1. .By attaching the strings 12 to the rear portion 9, as shown in Fig. 2, the strings 12 may be drawn tightly around the handle 6 without danger of loosening the stitching of the strings. The end 18 of the attaching strip 15 is then passed around the body portion of the broom and out on the opposite edge thereof, as shown in Fig. 2, and tied as indicated in Fig. 1. The stringvl servesV to prevent shifting of the lower end of the mop upon the broom.
It is to be understood that While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement lof parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the Subjoined claims.
, Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A mop attachment forbrooms comprising a body portion adapted to be folded portion 9 in vthe manner shown in Fig. 2,.
portion being` provided with an openingto receive the handle of the broom', and t pain or attachingstrlps carried byfsznd rear porl tion and adapted to be tied about the broom handle. K
2. A Inop attachment v-for broonis comprising a body portion including front and rear portions, said 'frontportion being provided with an opening adaptedv toj receive fthe handle of the broom, means for attaching V.saidredr portion to the broom, a plu mlty of mop elements, and a plurality of ttaching strips adapted to secureV Said mop Aelernentspto said body portion, one of said attaching strips beingk provided With eX- tensionseadapted to be Vtied about the broom. y In testimony whereof I affix my signature inlpresenceo'li two Witnesses.
