Be it known that l, EMMA (i. (illdlilN. a citizen of the United States. residing at Paterson. in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Du ters, of which the following is a specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a duster of the class having a handle which can be manufactured and sold at comparatively little cost and in which the dusting fabric, composed of one or more cloths or other suitable material, will be held securely in proper arrangement for dusting and so that it mav be readily removed whenever it becomes soiled and a. fresh one substituted. To this end the handle consists of a. suitable length of Wood having one end portion formed into a grip or handle proper and the other end portion formed with a longitudinal groove which reaches .to its free end, and. in the inner end of the groove an elongated flexible device. as a cord. is permanently attached. the other end of the cord having a. fastening. as a loop or eye to fit over stud or pin arranged at an exterior point of and on the handle and so detachablv hold the fold or folds of the Fabric, which straddle said flexible device in the groove.

The handle a is composed of a suitable length of wood. one end portion of which is suitably shaped to provide a grip or handle portion .71 and the other end portion of which is formed with a longitudinal groove 0. so that it is in ellect U ahaped in cross section,

groove and being straddled by the folded fabric and holding the same clamped against the bottom oi the groove. It is permanently secured at the one end by having a loop c lorined therein and penetrated by a pin f which is driven through the handle and traverses the groove near its inner end; the device e is detachahly secured at. its other end by having a loop or eye (:1 thereon which is adapted to he slipped over a stud g preferahly having a head, the stud being driven into the handle at the exterior thereof. The device 6 protected against being worn away Where itprojects from the groove at the free end thereof and is then returned to engage the stud by providing a notch h to receive the same in the free end of the handle.

When the fabric becomes soiled or worn in use the device is detached from the stud and then a treshlv folded fabric is insert-ed in the groove in the manner shown in the drawing. the device c is placed in the fold ol the fabric and its free end again attached to the stud.

I am aware that it is old in the art of brushes. dusters, mops and the lilre to provide a. handle with a longitudinal groove and secure folds of fabric or equivalent in the groove by a member Which is straddled by the fabric; but in our previous construction known to me said member is still and permanently secured to the handle and furthermore adds considerablv to the weight of the device. and in these and other respects differs from my invention. which I claim as follows 1. ln coin-hination. an elongated handle member having a groove formed therein and extending to one end thereof. a fabric having a fold formed therein and having such told lving in the groove. and an elongated taut flexible securing devi e for the fabric secured at one end thereof permancntlv to the handle and in he groove and detachablv securel at its other end to the handle exterior of the groove and straddling and thereby holding the talpric clamped against the bottom of the groove.
