Description

Patented lf, 132.6,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MOP CLOTH.
Original application filed May 8, 1923, Serial No. 636,788. Divided and this application filed September 23, 1924. Serial No. 739,256.
T0 all who-m t 'may concern.'
Be it known that I, TVILLIAM J. Moons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia,- in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop Cloths, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to mop-cloths and its objects are to provide a mop-cloth of the strand typein which the strands Will be so firmly held that they cannot become loose and to provide a mop-cloth of greater' durability than those now in use.
These objects, and other advantageous ends which Will be described hereinafter, l attain in thefolloiving manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in Which- Figure l is avplan vievv of the strands of the mop-cloth showing a reinforcing band to be applied to the strands,
Figure 2 a plan view showing the band applied to the strands,
Figure 3 a section through the reinforcing band, and
Figure i a view in elevation'sliowing the completed mop-cloth applied to a mopholder.
This application is a division of my application, Serial No. 636,788 filed May 8, 1928, for mops.
rThe numeral 1 indicates the strands of liquid absorbing material Which constitute the body of the mop-cloth, 2 a reinforcing core extending laterally of the strands mid-l way of their length, 3 a reinforcing band which en'ibraces the strands midway of their length and uhich encloses the core when folded on its central longitudinal line, 4e and .3 rou's of stitching by which the reinforcing band is secured to the strands, 6 rows of stitching by which the band is secured in its folded position, 7 eyelets by which. the mop-cloth may be secured to a mop-holder. 8 a inopliolder and 9 hooks adapted to take through the eyelets and secure the mop-cloth io the mop-holder.
The mop-cloth is constructed by laying a series of liquid absorbing strands upon the reinforcing band, folding the reinforcing band over the strands midway of their length so that it will completely surround the foldedisides of the band to each other to hold the core in position by lines of stitch ing 6. That part of the mop which includes the band is further reinforced by the eyelets which pass through both sides of the band. i
In use the strands of the mop are sub-r jected to pulling strains which, in the absence of a core, would be exerted upon the stitches. The core serves as a bearing and relieves the stitching of partof the strain.
The inopecloths are designed for use in pairs, thus dispensing With need for a large mop-cloth and facilitating their being cleansed. The reversible feature of the individual mop-cloths increases their' durability. Y
While I have described my invention as taking a particular form, it Will be understood that the various parts may be changed Without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and aiterations as fairly come Within the scope of the appended claim;
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by .liet ters Patent is :N
A mop-cloth comprising strands; a tiexible band embracing the srands midway of their length, said band being secured to said strands by rows of stitching along the edges of said band and by tivo rows of stitching extending paralleli to each other through the center of said band and strands; a core positioned between said central parallel rows of stitching, said band and strands being folded over said core; a roiv of stitching extending through said folded band and strands adjacent said core; a row of stitching extending through said band and strands adjacent the edges of said band; and eyelets extending through said band and strands between said last-mentioned rows of stitching.
In testimony vvhereof I have signed my name to this specification.
WILLIAM J; MOORE.
