" Jil'L ILLIAM J. MOORE. OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
MOP.
Application filed May 5,
Til "o ILLUQMIIQ'HL it may concern: r
it known that 1, WILLIAM J. Moons, a citizen oi the -United States, residing at ll'iiladelphia, in the county or Ph iladelphicfand State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inMops, of which the following is a Myinveutio-nrelates to mops and its object is to provide a mop holder and mop-' cloth which maybe readily detached from each other; a mop-cloth which will not lose its strands, and a mop-holder which will re' ceive and hold a pair ofmop-cloths, permit ting av large mop-cloth to be made in two pieces and thereby facilitate itshandling. I
This object, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference being' had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a mop con-.
structed in accordance with my inverition,- Figure 2 a side view of Figure 1, Figure 3 a plan view of Figure I, Figure 4: a central section through the Figure 5 a perspective view of one of -the sections which make: up the body erthe,
niop-holder,
strands folded and stitched again, and pro hooks 12 are secured to vided with eyeletsfor receiving the holding, niieans of the'mop-holder, and v Figure .9 a, section through the reinforc fling; hand and one of the eyelets.
referring" to thedrawings, the hoop-holder 1 injade in sections 2 and 3 secured or:
' vie-cu. with a semi-circular socket-part 5 and,
a fiat body-part6 having catches 7 struck u therefrom. When the sections are rivete together-the socket parts 5 :torm a socket S.
and the body parts 6 forms a body 9; The soclretS rcceivesfa handle-lll-which isse cured thereto by rivets v the opposite sides.
7 of the body 9 by rivets 13 which extend from the hook on one side of the body to thd hook on the other' side. A mop-cloth 14 is prcvidedwith openings 15 for recelving the placed around the strands.
. ignre 6 a planview of the strands of:

hooks 12. f The hoolrs we locked to the body by the catches 7 as shown in Figuresl and 3. The construction of the mop-cloth may be of any suitable character but preferably as shown in Figures 6 to 9. The strands 16 oil liquid-absorbing material are laid as shown in'Figure .6 and a reinforcing'band 17 The band is secured thereto by any suitable means such as the stitching 18. A reinforcing core 19 is .laid along the center row of the stitching 18 and the band and strands folded thereon and stitched again at 20 and 21. The folded sides 22 and 23 of the band are provided with the openings 15 which are reinforced by eyelets 24. If desired these openings may e reinforced by knitting around them.
When it is desired to remove the mopcloths to Wash them, the hooks are released from the crutchesv 7 as shown in Figure 4; and the mop-cloths lifted off the hooks. By providing the mop-cloths in pairs, a'large mop cloth is done away with and the handling of the cloths when washing them is facilitated: When the mop-cloths are-worn on one side they me be turned aroundand used on the other si e, thus lengthening the life of the cloth. By constructingthe mop-cloth with a reinforcing band as above described, the strands will not pull out as was commonin mop-cloths prior to my invention.-
While I have'described my invention as takinga particular form, it will be understood that thevariousjparts of my invention may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit my self to the precise construction 'setforth, but consider that I am'at liberty to make such j changes and, alterations as fairly come within the scope .of'the appended claims. thus described my invention, what I calm as newand lLettersPatent is a socket and a .flat part spending edgewise fromjthe socket; hooks attached to the sides ofitlfebody part and adapted to. receive a mop cloth, and means on. the body part adaptedto engage the hooks to prevent the desire to secure by 1. A mop holder including a body having lot mop cloth from being accidentally pulled from the hooks.
, 2. A'mop holde'rincludingaloody having a socket and a flat part depending edgewise front the socket; catches ,lonthe sides of the body part, andho'oks attached to'the sides of the" body part adapted to receive a mop cloth and to be sprung into engagement with the catches to prevent the mop clothi from being accidentally pulled from the hoo s;
3. A mop including a body; a handle on the body; a mop-cloth; hooks on the body for receiving the n1opcioth, and catches struck up from the body for locking the ends of the hooks to the body.
4. A. mop including a body having a socket and made in sections. each section being provided with a semi-circular socket part, a flat body part, and catches struck up from the fiat body part; mop-cloths, and hooks on the body for receiving the inofcloths and adapted to be locked to the body by the catches.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two suhsciihing Witnesses.
