Description

' RAYMOND n. conexion, or cnicneo," ILLINOIS;
TELEPHONE-SHELF.
To all whom/traag concern.'
Be it lmown that VI, RAYMOND E.' CONG- DoN, a citizen of the'United States, at Chicago, inthe county ofCook and State of Illinois, have invented new .and useful Improvements inv Telephone- Shelves, of which the 'followingpis a specification.l
The shelf which is the subject matter of the 'present application'for patent has been designed more particularlyfor supporting a telephone receiverv and transmitter .set where the same is associated with a coin box, the object ofthe inventionbeing to provide a novel and improved support for' the instrumentby which the use of a table ordinarily employed for this purpose is dis pensed with. The device will thus be useful in booths and other places'too small for a table or similar support for thetelephone instrument. v
The invention also has for its object to provide a support ofthe kindstated which is readily adjustable to properly seat on the coin box and the support thereof.
The objects stated are attained by means of a combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and in order that the same may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing specification.
In the drawing,
. Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device;
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof, and
Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the device in place. Y. i
Referringspeciically to thedraw'ing, 5 denotes the coin-receiving box` of a telephone set, the same being secured to a back board 6 secured to the wall of albooth,.r0om or other place. The `rear face of theboard 6 hasa vertical groove 6a in which the wires of the instrument lie. i. V
Associated with'the box v5 and 'the supporting back board 6 thereof is al shelf for supporting the telephone instrument. This shelf is a sheet metal plate 7 having an upstanding marginal guard flange 8L to revent the instrument from sliding ol". he plate 7 is positioned above the top of the coin box, and it is provided with means whereby it is securely held in this position Specification of Letters .'Patent. Patnted Application led August 11, 1920..v Serial No.
residing Idle one of the slots 10,
forming a part of thisl 'top thereof, to 'seat in Nev 2e, 1920. 402,804.
These holding means' are'constructed land arranged as follows: i
The rear edge of the'plate 7 has two laterally spaced downturned flanges 9, and the platealso 'has three slots 10 running in the direction of the front and rear portions thereof. From the bottom of theplate depend two laterally spaced wings 11, which latter are adapted toseat with their rear vertical edges against the front face of the board 6 and thus serve as braces to prevent :the plate from tilting.
Un the underside of the plate 7 is slidably mounted'tlie shank 12 of a downturned hook 13, the same being composed of a double strip of sheet metal. This hook shank carries a bolt 14 passing through the midwith a washer 15 between the two shank, and anut 16 below the latter. Upon loosening the nut 16, the hook 13 can be adjusted forwardly or rearwardly of the plate v7.
` The wings 11 `extend downward from flat parts 4constituting the hook base plates 17 Vseating against the bottom face of thel plate 7, and said plates 17 have .transverse slots 18 extending crosswise of the slots 10. At the intersection of these slots bolts 19 are passed therethrough, and secured bynuts 20, by which the plates 7 and 17 are securely fastened together. The
slots permit adjustment of the plates 17 forwardly or rearwardly of the plate 7, and
lalso sidewise, to position the wings 11 to come against the board 6 and also to space the same toi-come on opposite sides of the coin boxe. The shelf-7 is secured in place by slipping the hook 13. behind the board 6 atthe the groove 6?, the hook being drawn forwardly to firmly grip 'the board, after which itis locked by tight vening the nut 16. The iianges 9 seat on thej 'to edge of the board 6.
he adjusts-nity of the hook 13 ne the wings 11 enables the device to be readily fitted to the coin box 5 'and the back board when the dev ice is in place it affords a convenient support for the tele- 6 thereof, and
phone instrument.
I claim. p A r ,1. A supporting device,V comprising a shelf, laterally spaced brace vwings depending from the shelf, and adjustable forwardly, rearwardly and laterallv relatively thereto, and a downturned hook having a shank which is slidably mounted on the under side of the shelf, said hook being positioned to project from the rear edge of the shelf.
2. A supporting device.
:omorlsng a shelf having downturned and laterallv 10 spaced flanges at its rear edge. laterallv eoacecl brace Wlngs depending from the snelf. and adiustable forwardly. rearwardl)v ma laterallv relativelv thereto. and a down- '.urned hooK llavlngr a shank which is slid- Loly mounted on the under side of the shelf, sald hook being posltioned to project from ne rear edge 0I the snelf.
