GUIDE FOR POSITIONING SHEETS OF PAPER.
Application filed February 7', 1922.
To all whom it may con-0cm Be it known that I, ISRAEL BERENSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Guides for Positioning Sheets of Paper, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to guides for pcsitioning sheets of paper and particularly adapted for use on a shelf provided for receiving printed sheets after the latter have been taken from a printing press.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical device for positioning sheets of paper and retaining the same in alignment one above the other in piles.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and particularly pointed out in the claim thereof.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1, represents a plan view of a shelf and pile of paper thereon, a plurality of guide units embodying my invention being illustrated fast to said shelf and positioning said paper thereon.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 9 --2 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the Several views of the drawings.
In the drawings, 5 represents a shelf or table such as are provided upon a printing press and upon which sheets of paper 6 may be placed one upon the other after having been ta en from said press. A plurality of scrim-threaded holes 7 are provided in the shelf 5 and are conveniently positioned therein to be utilized in securing a plurality of guide units 8 to said shelf in posit-ions where they will co-operate to position the sheets of paper 6. v
The guide units 8 each consist of a base member 9 provided with a slot 10 formed therein through which a thumb screw 11 projects. The thumb screw 11 has an'enlarged head 12 and has a shoulder 13 formed thereon and is utilized as a means for clamping the base member 9 to the shelf 5. Located at one end of the base member 9 is a projecting flange 14 to the under surface of which is pivotally attached through the medium of a thumb Screw 18 a guide member 15, the latter being adapted to swing Serial No. 534,790.
fastened to the shelf 5, being positioned thereon to accommodate the size of the sheets of paper 6 and after the guide members 15 have been adjusted to engage the edges of the sheets of paper and have been clamped by the thumb screw 18 to the base member 9, the latter is then, in turn, clamped securely to the shelf 5 by means of the thumb screw 12. The sheets of paper 6, as they are taken from the press, are then placed one above the other on the pile, being held against displacement by the guide members 15 It is evident that the guide members 15 may be of any height desired to accommodate piles of paper of difierent hei hts, and it is furthermore evid.entthat the guide units may be utilized in any location where it is desired to stack sheets of-paper. A wide range of adjustment is obtainable with the device because of the fact that the base 9 is adjustable beneath the thumb screw 12 and the guide member 15 is also adjustable upon the base 9.
I claim A guide embodying therein a base provided with a slot therein and having a flange projecting from one end thereof, a thumb screw extending through said slot and adapted to clamp said base to a support a guide member embodying therein a horizontal portion located beneath said flange and a vertical portion extending upwardly from said horizontal portion and a thumb screw extending through said flange and engaging the horizontal portion of said guide member and adapted to pivotally attach said guide member to said flange and also clamp said guide member thereto.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ISRAEL BERENSON. Witnesses:
FRANKLIN E. Low, HAZEL F. LA MUDGE.
