M. HOPPER DISPLAY STAND Filed Aug. 10, 1922 a E I v 5 I gvwenmz reamed Oct. as, 1923.
MQE norrnn, or KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
DISPLAY s'reivn.
Application filed August 10, 1922. Serial No. 580,945.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that Mon HOPPER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Kansas City, county of "Jackson, State of Missouri, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Stands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and in counter display useful improvements advertising stands for the exhibition of cards or the like.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a (.evice of the character referred to which is composed entirely of sheet metal bent to the requisite shape thereby enabling the device to be manufactured in large quantities at comparatively small expense.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character speci-,.
embodying a vertical card retaining fled. portion and an extensible base therefor, the members of the base being formed to telescope one within the other to reduce the size of the device when not in use.
Other objects of the invention as well as the particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts will be more readily understood from the following description and accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line .22 of Figure 1, and v Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 5 designates generally the base of the device which is composed of two plates 6 and 7, the plate 7 having its sides and front edge bent inwardly to provide the underlying guide flanges 8, which engage the member 6, as shown to advantage in Figures 1 and 2, and serve to hold the two base members together in telescopic relation.
Preferably the outer transverse edge of the member 6 is bent to provide a flange 9, the "lower surface of which is disposed in the plane of the corresponding surfaces'of the flanges 8 so as to permit the base to rest evenly on a flat support.
Atits forward edge the base member 7 is provided with an integral upwardly extending card retaining the side or vertical edges thereof bent to provide card retaining flanges 11.
In the use of the device, the telescoping base members 6 and 7 are extended as shown in Figures'l and 2 to project uponopposite sides of the card retainin portion 10, and thereby prevent tipping of the latter. The advertising card to be displayed is then engaged against the said portion 10 with the ends of the card confined beneath the flanges 11, and the lower edge of the card resting on the upper surface of the base member 6. Preferably the device is placed upon the counter or other support containing the articles to which the advertising card refers.
Having thus fully described my invention.
in its preferred embodiment, I reserve the right to resort to such modifications as may later prove desirable provided, of course, that the same do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
hat I claim is:
A display stand comprising a base mem-' ber provided at the forward edge with an integral vertically disposed card retaining portion having the side edges thereof bent, the side and rear edges of the basenie'mber being bent to provide inwardly directed flanges underlying the base member in spaced relation thereto and a supplemental base member having its side edges disposed in telescoping engagement with the flanged sides of the first mentioned base member, the forward edge of the supplemental member being bent to provide an inwardly directed flange lying in theplane of the first mentioned flanges, whereby the, base members, in extended position, are adapted to rest evenly on a flat support.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature. x
MOE HOPPER.
