SANITARY DISPOSABLE HOLDER FOR ORAL HYGIENE DEVICES I Filed Nov. 5, 1956' I n u I INVENTOR D.H. ELLIOTT 1 I i f AT TORNEYS United States Patent 1,916,155 SANITARY DISPDSABLE HOLDER FOR ORAL HYGIENE DEVICES 'Doiiglas H'. EIliottfCasper, Wyn.
Application November '5, 1935, Serial No. 620,509
4 Claims. (Chill- 66) .iIhis invention relates to the care'of the person, to the eqiii'pmen't employed, and to means by which the ci-tiiprrrehtdsmade available andthe'use of the same is er'icburaged. 'Theinventionisparticularly concerned with means forfsupportingin a convenient location and in a sanitarry manner devices which it is considered *necessary to'have near and availablein clean condition at all *times.
'The invention relates specifically to a sanitary disposablelhold'er for oral hygiene devices which holder can be "discarded after arelatively short period of use and can be r'eadily replaced without appreciable expense.
Devicesfof various .kinds have been provided "for holding, in convenient or readily accessible location, toothbrushes or other articles, some of which have been exposed so that they were readily struck and their usefulness impaired and sometimes causing injury to the person or to property. Others have been generally undesirable due to being unsanitary or objectionable for other reasons.
It is an object of the invention to provide a sanitary disposable toothbrush holder of simple and inexpensive structure, capable of being easily and quickly applied, which will support one or more toothbrushes inconspicuously in a manner not to interfere with the use of other facilities, which may be easily discarded and replaced without injury to the supporting structure or the esthetic nature of the surroundings.
Another object of the invention is to provide a holder for oral hygiene appliances and the like, which holder is in the form of a foldable sheet capable of being disposed in stacked relation with others of a similar character and which can be dispensed in any desired manner one by one; as well as a holder which requires no tool or equipment to apply or remove and which is compact so that it does not provide projections which might be easily engaged and displaced, by which articles may be supported independently and exposed to the light and air and in a manner to encourage the use of the same.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary perspective illustrating multiple applications of the invention;
Fig. 2, a perspective of one specific form of the invention;
Fig. 3, a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2;
Figs. 4 and 5, perspectives of the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3;
Fig. 6, a perspective of the modified form of the invention;
Fig. 7, a section on the line 7--7 of Fig. 6; and
Fig. 8, a perspective of a further modified form of the invention.
Briefly stated the present invention is a holder for hygienic devices such as toothbrushes and the like, and such holder is formed of an elongated relatively flat stifi body having openings for receiving toothbrushes or the like. This body is of bendable material and is provided with a tab at one lateral edge which may be inserted in a 2,916,155 Patented Dec. 8, 1959 'ice 2 separate holder having-an adhesive on one face by which it may be attached 'to the surface of a support, or the tab may have adhesive applied to one face thereof so that the holder may be attached to a support directly bymean's of such adhesive.
With continued reference to the drawing, the present invention is a holder for toothbrushes or other hygienic devices or the like, adapteddo b'e located-on-a wall such as a bathroom wall 10 neara wash basin 11 located beneath a mirrored medicine cabinet 12.
A sanitary disposable toothbrush holder and bracket in accordance with the present invention may be of a character such as that discl'osed in Figs. 2 to 5, in Figs. 6, 7, in Fig. '8, orof other generally similar character, three' type's of such-devices being disclosed in Fig. 1.
With reference to the disclosures of Figs. 2, 3,4-and 5, a generally rectan'gular wall bracket -13ymay be provided of any desired material, such .as a-blo'ck of plastic, cardboard or other substance, and may be detachably-mounted'on a Wall by any convenient means, as for example by an adhesive 14. Fhe surface having the adhesive may be protected by=rneans of acov'er sheet 15 of inexpensive material such as for example paper or the like, which merely is adapted to 'be removed'a'nd the adhesive covered surface pressed against a relatively smooth surface such as thatofa wall ll).
The wall bracket is provided with a keystone-shaped or other wedge type recess 16 to form a receiving socket for a correspondingly shaped mounting tab or projection 17 by which the body of a holder may be mounted in place. The holder is in the form of a rectangular plate or strip 1-8 having a series of openings 19 therein oval in shape or of any other desired configuration,
The strip 18 may be in the form of a relatively thick sheet or body of cardboard or other simple and inexpensive material, with an integral mounting tab or projection 17 which can be readily bent at right angles to the body 18 and inserted in the socket forming recess or slot 16 so that the end and sides of the tab engage the end and sides of the recess and with the under surface of the body of the device resting upon the upper edge of the mounting bracket.
In installing the device just described the cover sheet is removed from the mounting bracket and the latter is pressed firmly against a relatively smooth surface either prior to application of the holder or subsequently thereto.
Instead of a mounting bracket such as that disclosed, a mounting bracket 20 may be employed, such bracket being provided with a wavy slot or groove 21 in which the lateral edge of a relatively fiat cardboard body 22 may be inserted. This cardboard body may have openings 23 of oval or other desired configuration for receiving toothbrushes or other devices to be supported. The bracket 20 may be secured in place by any desired means as for example by means of an adhesive 24 applied to rear surface and such adhesive normally is covered by a protective sheet 25 until removed for installation of the device.
If desired instead of utilizing mounting brackets such as for example the mounting brackets 13 and 20, a slightly less expensive device may be produced which does not require the use of a mounting bracket. Such a device is shown in Fig. 8 and for this structure a relatively heavy body of cardboard or other bendable material 26 may be employed having openings 27 for the reception of toothbrushes or other devices not shown. The body 26 is provided with a mounting tab 28 which may be formed integrally therewith and have an adhesive 29 applied to one surface by which it may be attached to a support.
In order to assist in maintaining the body 26 in sub stantially horizontal position, the mounting tab 28 may have side portions 30 and 31 bendable at right angles to the body to form an extension and supporting portions for the body of the holder. This type of structure is capable of being produced from a relatively flat blank and placed in a stack and when installed the mounting tab can be bent at right angles to the body of the holder and the sides of the tab can be bent at right angles to the main body of the blank so that the upper ends of the sides of such tab extend beneath and support the body of the holder.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that a simple, practical, inexpensive holder for oral hygienic devices and the like is provided which can be kept in a stack, can be quickly installed or removed, and which is of great convenience to the user.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and therefore the invention is not limited by that which is illustrated in the drawing and described in the specification, but only as indicated in the accompanying claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A holder for an oral hygiene device or the like comprising a base portion for attachment in a generally horizontal position to an upright wall, said base portion having an outwardly opening groove in the form of an indirect line and disposed across the same in a manner to receive a generally horizontally disposed insert, and a flexible ledge-forming insert capable of being bowed and inserted into said groove so that a portion is disposed outwardly of said base portion and with such insert provided with one or more apertures for the reception of one or more oral hygiene devices.
2. The structure of claim 1 in which means is provided for attaching said base portion to a supporting wall.
3. The structure of claim 2 in which said means for attachment is a layer of adhesive.
4. The structure of claim 2 in which said means for attachment are fastener elements.
