Be it known that I, VERNE F. DEA'rs, a citizen of the United States, residing, at Tiiiin, in the'county of Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Jar-Lifters, of which the following is a specification. l f
This invention relates to a jar lifter yand has for its principal'object the production of a simple and eflicient device which maybe easily attached or detached the outer surfaces of hot jars.
Another object of this invention is to provide a ar lifter which may be manufactured at the smallest possible cost.
A still further object of this'invention is to provide a resilient wire, one end of which from around is fixedly attached to a stick and means provided upon the other end for holding said wire securely around a jar.
Vith. these and other objects in view, this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more clearly described.

Fig. 3 is a detailed fragmentary view partly in section showing how the resilient arm is attached to the stick.
By referring to the accompanying draw-` ings by numerals it will be seen that 1 designates a stick upon which is provided the resilient arm 2. Upon the rear face of the stick is provided a slot 3 into which the end 4 of the arm 2 is held by means of a staple 5. This arm 2 is bent at substan tially right angles at 3 and terminates in the eye portion 4 as is clearly` shown in Fig. l of the drawing. f
A resilient wire 6 is fxedly attached to the stick l by means of passing into said stickV a spaced distance as is clearly shown at 7 in Fig. 2 of the drawings. This wire then passes through the eye 4 of the resilient arm 2 and passes around to the other side of the stick l, that is the side opposite into which the end of the wire is attached to the stick. Upon the latter side of the stick l is provided the bracket 8 which extends along the side of the stick l for a distance and is then bent at substantially right angles. The resilient wire 6 passes throughy the eye 4 and throughrthe eyey providedupon the free end of the bracket 8 andthen through the eye provided in the screw9. Another eye screw is provided a spaced distance above the eye 9 as is indicated at lO in Fig. l of the drawings. The resilient wirev -terminates in the eye .ll so as to rec'eive'the ring 12.

From the construction shown in Fig. 3 it will be seen that the end of the resilient arm 2 passes through. the stick l and is fitted within a longitudinally extending slot so that the end thereof may be lixedly held within the slot by means of the staple 5 so that the usually sharp end of the wire will be prevented from 'cutting in any way the operator of the device. By referring further to Fig. 2 it will Vbe seen that the end of the resilient wire 6 is also passed into the stick l so as to be fixedly held therein and be at the same time prevented vfrom injuring the operator.
From the above descriptionit will be seen that I have produced a simple and eiiicient jar lifter which is adapted to be constructed of sheet materiall and to consist of a minimum number of parts. It will also be seen that the device is easily constructed and therefore may be cheaply manufactured. I do not intend to limit myself to the peculiar construction as shown, only inasmuch as set forth in the accompanying claims.
` What I claim as new is l. In a device of the class described comprising a stick, a resilient arm, a resilient Wire iixedly attached adjacent the bottom end of said stick, said wire'l passing-through an eye provided upon the free end ot said resilient arm, a bracket fixedly attached to said stick, said wire passed through an, open,- ing in said bracket.
2. A device of the class described com,- prising a stick, a resilient arm, one end of said resilientarm, lixedly attached a spaced distance: from one end ofsaid stick, a bracket ixedly attached to saidstick, the treeend of said bracket provided with an eye, said wire passed-v through, opening in said eye, and means provided for holding said wire in a large looped position so that a jar may be passed through said loop.-
