Description
UNITED; STATES Patented October 18, 1904i.
PATENT OFFICE.
' NEEDLE-THREA'DER.
\ SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 772,821, dated October 18, 1904.
. Application-filed November 10, 1903. fie ifil NO- 180,530.- (No modeh) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADRIAN L. PEOK, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Sioux Falls, in the county ofMinnehaha and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Needle-Threaders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in needle-threaders, and has for its object a device by which a needlev may be easily and quickly threaded.
has been passed through its eyelby means of the thread-catcher, and Fig. 4; is a plan viewof my invention.
7 end for engaging the thread.
In the drawings let A represent a shank; B, a head on one end of said shank; (J, a needle-threader on said head; D, a knife on the side of said head for cutting the thread, and
'E a hook on the other end of said shank for hanging the device on a support when desired.
The needle-threader C consists of a threadcatcher 2, which is a verticalpin mounted on the head B and formed with a hook 3 on its A guard 6, having sides 7 and 8, which stand vertically, with the thread-catcher. between, is fastened on the head'B. These sides converge horizontally toward each other, as shown, and the hook 3 on said pin points toward the meeting line of said sides. The sides of the guard hold'the needle, with its elongated opening or eye, in position to readily receive the thread as the needle is passed otf of the thread,- catcher.
curved, as shown, to guide the thread into suitable engagement with the thread-catcher. The spool of thread 9 is'revolubly supported on the shank A to'enable the thread 9 to be easilyunwound. 1
' In use the eye 4 of the needle 5 is passed The upper edge 10 of the guard is the thread-catcher over the guiding edge of the guard, which causes the thread to bear against the thread-catcher below the hook. The thread is then held firmly in place and the needle lifted ofl the pin. This movement draws the thread through the eye of the needle, as shown in Fig. 3. The operation of threading the needle is completed by pulling the free end of the thread through the eye.
The head may be of any suitable shape. As shown, its side has a circular channel 12, across which the knife-blade D is fastened at '13 for cutting the thread.
The above coactive arrangement of parts for revolubly holding the spool, cutting the thread, and threading the needle quickens the operation of threading the needle and saves time and labor.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
l. A device of the class set forth, consisting of a suitable head, a guard on said head having sides which converge toward each other, the upper edge of said guard being curved to form a guide for the thread, and a thread-catcher between the sides of said guard, consisting of a pin having its upper end formed with a hook whichis directed toward the meeting part of the sides of said guard and projects above said guiding edge.
2. A device of the class setforth, consisting of a shank for holding the spool formed with a hook on one end anda head on the other, a guard on said head having sides which converge toward each other, the upper edge of said guard being curved to form a guide for the thread, and a pin between and projecting above the sides of said guard; said pin having a hook formed on its upper end which is directed toward the meeting part of the sides of said guard, for the purposes specified.
. 3. A device of the class set forth, consisting of a guard having sides which converge toward each other, the upper edge of said guard being curved to form a guide for the thread, a threadsisting of a pin having its upper end formed with a hook which is directed toward the meeting-line of the sides of said guard and projects above said guiding edge, a shank on which a spool is rotatably supported adjacent to said parts, and means for supporting said guard, thread-catcher and shank.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ADRIAN L. lilCOk.
