JOHN W. HUNTER, OF TABOR, IOWA.
HAIR-DRESSING DE VICE.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN WV. HUNTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tabor, Iowa, in the county of Fremont and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Dressing Devices, of which the following is a specifi cation, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in hair dressing utensils, more particularly it has reference to a device adapted for use in securing the loose hair about a womans head.
Referring to the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of my device in a closed position, Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the device open to receive the loose hair.
6 is the outer tube or casing of the tool terminating in the point 5 and provided with an internal plunger or tube 4L forced outwardly by the spring 7.
9 are fingers or clamps mounted `upon the pin 10 having its bearing in the outer casing.
11 are openings in the outer casing to allow for the operation of the fingers or clamps. The inner tube or plunger is also cut away as shown at 12 to allow for the fingers or clamps, so that it will be observed that the plunger is normally in the position shown in Fig. 1 and is so retained by the action of the spring 7 which causes the plunger to maintain thc fingers in a closed position.
Vhen it is desired to use the device it is pushed through the hair coming out at the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 18, 1908.
Patented Jan. 19, 1909.
Serial No. 427,867.
side or the back of the head where the loose hairs are hanging and then the operator with his fingers upon the clips 13 presses upon the internal rod or plunger which at the openings 12 throw out the fingers or clamps 9. It is then only necessary to place the loose hairs beneath the fingers and slowly withdraw the device which will draw the loose hair into the tight mass of the hair and leave the tool in position for further application.
14 are projections adapted for facilitating the penetration and withdrawal of the tool when in use.
Various modifications may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having described my invention, what. I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a device of the class described, an outer casing and an internal plunger, clamping means adapted to be operated thereby, said clamping means adapted to retain loose hairs.
2. In a hair dressing tool, an outer casing provided with clamping fingers, an internal plunger adapted to open said fingers, said fingers adapted to clamp loose hairs when said internal plunger is released.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN W. HUNTER.
Witnesses C. L. HALL, U. G. MANK.
