Application filed October 11, 1906. Serial No. 338,406.
To all whom it ma i concern:
Be it known that I, IDA BEoKER, a citizen of Germany, residing at Hagen, Westphalia, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hair-Ribbon Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved holder for securing a ribbon to the hair in such a manner that the ribbon cannot become accidentally detached, while any injurious binding up of the hair is avoided.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved hair-ribbon holder, showing it closed; Fig. 2, a rear view showing it open and with the ribbon attached; Fig. 3, a top view, and Fig. 4 a section on line 4 4, Fig. 1.
To one end of a lower comb 10, having upwardly-extending teeth, is pivoted at 11 an upper comb 12, having downwardly-extending teeth. The combs 10 and 12 are both bulged in the same direction, so that their teeth are set in two parallel concave planes, the teeth being of such a length as to overlap when the device is closed. The lower comb 10 has a long slot 13 at its center and one member of a catch 14 near its free end. This member is adapted to engage a cooperating member 15 near the free end of upper comb 12. A bow or ribbon 16 is adapted to be secured to the lower comb 10 by threads passing through slot 13 or by being drawn bodily through said slot.
In use the upper comb 12 is swung up, the
lower comb 10, with the ribbon attached, is
pushed into the hair, and then the upper comb is swung down and locked to the lower comb by catch 14 15. In this way the combs will securely attach the ribbon to the hair. If it is desired to remove the ribbon, the catch 14 15 is opened, the upper comb 12 is swung up, and then the lower comb, together with the ribbon, is withdrawn.
I claim- A holder for hair-ribbons composed of an upper comb having its teeth set in a concave plane, a lower slotted comb having its teeth set in a parallel concave plane, means for pivotally connecting the combs, and a catch for interlocking the combs, substantially as specified.
