OCoNNoR, a citizen oi.: the United States, residing at Uhr cago, in the county ot Cook and State ot illinois, have invented a certain new and useful lmprovement in Roller-Bearings. ot which the following is a full? clear. concise and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part ci' this specification.

A more speciiic object oi' the invention is to provide a roller bearing ot the type above indicated7 having improved means for returning the antiriction rollers to their central normal position under the influence of gravity after each actuation, said means being so designed and cooperating` with the base casting that the parts will always be brought to rest when freerom actuating pressure in the proper place.

The improved bearing is shown as applied to the truck bolsterend comprises, broadly, a base casting or casing A, a pair ot' anti-friction rollers` EMB, and a pair oi weights C-G The casting or casing A is ot substantially rectangular torination and has parallel side walls lf2-12, end walls l3-l8, lower horizontal wall le and perforated corner lugs l5 bv which it is riveted or 'bolted to the bhlster. Ilhe lower wall oi the casing or retaining member is adapted to take the load 'from the rollers and is preferably provided with a steel insert indicated at 115 to provide better wearing qualities. The bottoni wall is suitably recessed as at 16 to accommodate the insert 115 so that the upper Jface of the latter lies flush with the top surface ot' the remaining portion of the bottom wall. To hold the steel insert in position l provide a pair of overhanging lugs lil-17 at one end under which the insert ll is inserted and at the other end o the plate a coto 1S is extended through the wall 13 in such manner as to overlap the insert 115 and hold it against accidental removal. The casting may be cut away in the end walls as indicated llli9 in order to permit dirt and other toreign matter to be cleared therefrom.

ln order to insure the retnrfi the rollers to their central position a` 1 tion of the bearing and also to y sibility ot the rollers being shifted length wise of the base castingdue to or vibration, l provide the following means. @n each side of the base casting and at each end thereof, in alinement with the corresponding weights C, l provice an inclined shoulder as indicated at 22-22 cent ends of the Weights C are correspondingly beveled or inclined as indicated at 23 .and the length of the Weights C is such that there is a slight clearancenormally between the beveled ends 23 and the inclined shoulders 22 of the base casting. The bevel of the ends 23 and incline of the shoulders 22 is made such that there will be no interference with the elevation of the Weights C as the rollers move to either side of normal, assuming` that the parts start from the position shown in the drawings. Any tendency of the rollers and Weights C' to be shifted longitudinally will be limited by engagement of the Weights with the inclined shoulders 22 and similarly, after the Weights C have been elevated as the Weights fall during the rotation of the rollers B the Weights Will be positively centered by the inclined shoulders 22.
Although l have herein shown and described what l nov,7 consider the preferred manner of carrying out the invention, the same Vis merely illustrative and l contemplate all changes and modifications that come Within the scope of the claims appended hereto.

l. ln. an anti-friction bearing, the combination Ywith a hollonv retaining member, of a plurality of anti-friction rollers disposed Within said' member, a ive-ight Within said member,` and duplicate sets of projections on said rollers engaging said Weight, one set being adapt-ed to elevate the Weight when the rollers are moved in one direction and the other set to'elevate the said Weight when the'rollers are moved in the opposite direction.
2. In anY anti-friction bearing, the combination with a hollow retaining member, of a plurality of anti-friction rollers disposed Within said member,each of said rollers having a pair of spaced projections, and a slotted gravity actuated plate mounted on saidrprojections and adapted to be elevated when the rollers are moved to either side of normal, the plate being adapted to return the rollers to normal position upon removal of the actuating pressure.

4. ln an anti-friction bearing of the character described, the combination with a hollon7 substantially rectangular retaining member having a horizontally ext-ending bearing surface therein; of a plurality of anti-friction rollers Within said retaining member and adapted to roll back and forth on said bearing surface; a gravity controlled plate independent of the retaining member and disposed therein; and cooperating means on said plate and each of said rollers so arranged that, upon rolling movement of the rollers to either side of normal position, said plate Will be elevated and automatically return said rollers to normal position upon removal of the actuating pressure, said plate and retaining` member having cooperating means for centering said plate with respect tothe retaining member. f
5. ln an anti-friction bearing of the character described, the combination With a hollovv substantially rectangular retaining member adapted to be secured to a truck bolster and provided on its interior with a flat bearing surface and inclined ledges each end thereof and on opposite sides; of a plurality of anti-friction rollers disposed Within said retaining member and adapted to roll back and'forth on said bearing surface; gravity actuated plates disposed at the opposite ends of said rollers and in alinement with said inclined ledges; and cooperating means on said rollers and plates arranged to elevate the latter as the rollers move to either side of normal'position, said rollers extending above the top of the retaining member and adapted to coperate with an opposed bearing surface.
