IMPROVEMENT IN DRAWER-PULL'S.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,754, dated February 11, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that We, CHARLES S. BARNARD and EDWARD A. BARNARD, of West Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Drawer-Pulls; and we do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of thesame, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a perspectiveview.
This invention relates to an improvement in what are termed drawer-pulls, and particularly that class known as drop-pullsthat is, in which the pull is pivoted to the socket so as to drop and hang perpendicular from the socket and raised in pulling to open the drawor. The prime object of this invention is the adaptation of a pull of this class to narrow drawer-fronts. Usually in this class of drawers the key is employed as the pull to open the drawer, and this is frequently inconvenient. This invention consists in combining a drop-pull with the escutcheon of the key-hole.
A is the escutcheon, constructed of any desirable form, and through which the key-hole is made for the insertion of the key. Below the key-hole the socket B is attached, and to this the pendent pull 0 is hung.
In narrow drawer-fronts the escutcheon prevents the application of a pull beneath the key-hole, and to apply a pull to each side of the key-hole disfigures rather than ornaments the front. By this construction we are enabled to arrange the socket very near the keyhole and make the escutcheon thereby highly ornamental, and the pull hanging therefrom will not extend so far down as to interfere with the drawer below.
The escutcheon and pull may be inverted and make the key-hole below the pull, if desirable; but we prefer the construction shown.
We claim as our invention- As an article of manufacture, the combined escutcheon and drop-pull, substantially as specified.
