UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HANS H. STAUGAARD, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUREAUS AND WARDROB ESC OMBI NED.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145.312, dated December 9, 1873; application filed May 31,1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HANS H. STAUGAARD, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Combination Bureau and Wardrobe, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of my combination bureau and wardrobe, and Fig. 2 a vertical transverse section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of my invention is to construct, for the use of hotels, boarding-houses, small families, and bachelors, a combination bureau and wardrobe which hasthe advantages of both pieces of furniture, being at the same time cheaper, and taking up much less room. My invention consists of a bureau the upper drawers of which are shortened to give a larger space to the wardrobe placed above the bureau, and connected by suitable clamps therewith.
In the drawing, A represents the bureau, and B the wardrobe. The lower drawers, a, of the bureau extend through to the rear, the upper drawers, b, being constructed of about half the depth of the lower ones, suitable for smaller articles of wearing apparel. The wardrobe B extends from the lower drawers, a, in the rear of the upper ones, to convenient height, being closed by symmetrical doors (1. The clothes may, therefore, be suspended therein without difiiculty, as the extension below the top of the bureau gives full space to them. Bureau and wardrobe are firmly connected by dovetail clamps f on the inside.- They may be easily taken apart for moving, allowinga con venient handling of the parts.
The top of the wardrobe may be finished with ornamental work, and provided with bracket or shelf for a clock.
1 The whole piece offers a neat appearance, and will be specially useful when limited space or means come into consideration.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut-- The combination of bureau A with wardrobe B by extending the latter in the rear of the upper shorter drawers, 1), connected by clamps f, to be detachable, substantially as and for the purpose described.
HANS HANSEN STAUGAARD.
