To a/ZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J Essn F. SLATER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Charlton city, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Secret Oompartments for Cabinets, &c.;' and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a secret or concealed compartment for furniture which may be used as a receptacle for valuables; and it consists in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet to which I have shown my invention applied. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line of Fig. 2, and Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are detail perspective views.

Similar escutcheons are located on the rear side of the article of furniture, and the blocks attached to these escutcheons carry hooks g which are adapted to engage cross-bars which intersect recesses h in the end piece of the secret compartment D, and when the hooks are in engagement with said cross-bars the removal of the secret compartment will be prevented.

The drawer C is now slid into the drawer-receptacle, the pins pushed into the grooves in the side pieces thereof and the ornaments H moved to cover said pins.

Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
