Description
(ModeL) J. E. MERRIMAN.
Drawer Pull.
No. 234,139. Patented Nov. 9, 1880.
Fig. i.
Inventor 12 fulfil/w l5. Jlrrimam UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUS E. MERRIMAN, OF WEST MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO FOSTER, MERRIAM & CO., ()F SAME PLACE.
DRAWER-PU LL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 234,139, dated November 9, 1880.
Application filed September 1, 1880. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J ULIUs E.1VIERRIMAN, of West Meriden, of the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drawer- Pulls; and I do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which Figure l is a top view, Fig. 2 a side elevation, and Fig. 3 a longitudinal section, of a drawer-pull of my improved kind. Fig. 4 is a top View of its fastening-screw. Fig. 5 is a front View, and Fig. 6 avertical section, of the I 5 rosette.
In the first three of the said figures the drawer-pull is shown as fixed to a portion of the front of a drawer, such portion being represented at A.
The nature of my invention is duly set forth in the claims hereinafter presented.
My improvement relates to the common pendulous drawer-pull, whose knob has its shank hinged to its supporting-screw, in order that the knob, when at rest, may hang vertically from the screw when the latter is fixed in a drawer or other article.
In the drawings, B denotes the knob; C, its sustaining-shank; D, the confining-screw; E,
0 the nut, and F the rosette.
is to be struck up from sheet metal by dies, and therefore necessarily is hollow or chambered, as shown at a.
In carrying outmy improvement I form the 5 said rosette or terminate it at its center with a chambered and notched dome, b, the notch 0 being extended diametrically and horizontally across the arch of the dome, and to receive the rectangular head d of the confining- 4o screw D. The said screwhas a prismatic and somewhat tapering shank, e, to preventitfrom turning around in the drawer-front after being inserted therein, and such screw also has a rectangular and slotted head, d, formed in 5 top view, as shown in Fig. 4, and in edge view, as shown in Fig. 2. This head extends into and fills the notch 0, whereby the notched dome of the rosette is made to aid in preventing both the rosette and the screw from revolving or working loose on the drawer as well as independently of each other.
The said rosette The rosette and its notched dome, when the nut is set up, operate to keep the screw in its normal position, in order for the knob, when down, to ban g vertically.
The knob or handle B is fixed upon a flat shank, C, bent at its upper part in manner as represented, so as to form a hook,f, and a back stop, g, projecting from it in manner as represented. The said hook hooks into or upon the slotted head 01, and with such constitutes the hinge of the knob, the back stop,
g, serving, by contact with the dome b, to prevent the knob from falling against and indenting the drawer. 5
Besides the back stop, the shank C is provided with a fore stop, as shown at h h, to prevent the knob from being raised or thrown upward high enough to stop it from falling by gravity to its lowermost position. The fore 7o stop, by abutting against the upper surface of the head of the confining-screw, stops the knob at its highest position.
In the above-described draw-pull, I claim as my invention as follows, viz:
1. The rosette chamberedandprovided with the chambered and notched dome, as described, in combination with the knob-shank supporting-screw having its slotted head constructed as described and inserted in the notch of the dome, all being substantially as set forth.
2. The knob-supporting screw hinged to the knob and provided with the slotted head and the prismatic shank, in combination with the nut and with the rosette chambered and provided with the chambered and notched extension or dome and having the screw-head arranged in the notch of the dome, all being essentially as set forth. o
3. The knob-supporting shank C, provided with the back and fore stops, in combination with the rosette having the notched extension and with the confining-screw hinged to the shank and having its head arranged in the 5 notch of such extension, all being substantially as set forth.
JULIUS E. MERRIMAN.
