' Application filed .Tune 5, ieiet'seria No. 301,937.
7T0 allwhomitmay concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW LEYDEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and
State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ash-Trays, of which the following is a specification.
-My invention relates to improvements in ash. trays and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this character, which is simple and efficient in op.-
' 1 eration and capable of folding intocompact s ace.
Other objects will'appear hereinafter. The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. r
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part which, V
Figure 1 is a perspective View of an ash tray embodying the invention,
Fig. 2, a top plan view of said ash tray shown in folded condition,
Fig. 3, a side View corresponding with Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4, a front View corresponding with Fig. 2.
of this specification, and in The preferred form of construction illustrated in the drawings comprises a body 5, preferably made of sheet metal, or the like, and having a plurality of grooves 6 extending transversely across said body from the front to the rear edge thereof-and each adapted to receive a cigar, or the like. Each of the grooves 6 is provided with a finger opening 7 properly distanced from the front edge of the body and adapted to facilitate the removal of cigars from said grooves. An ash trough 8 is hinged at 9 to the front edge of the body 5 and is adapted to fold on to the top of said body as indicated. A trough 9 is provided at one end with a hinged door 9 to facilitate emptying the ashes therefrom, and the inner wall of said trough is provided with serrations 10 adapted to fit under the grooves in body 5, as shown. A supporting apron 11 is arranged provided with two keyhole slots 13 adapted Specification of Letters Patent. v
lPatented Oct. 26,
to fit over nails or other headed studs on a wall, or the like, to serve as a convenient port 16 is hinged at 17 to one side of saidv I body. A stop lip 16 is provided at the cor: responding edge of said-body to limit the outward swing of said match box support,
as shown. r I
By this arrangementthe ash tray, when i a wall or other vertical {surface or placed the same may be folded into compact form, as indicated in Figs. 2, 3 and 4:.
While I have illustrated anddescribed the. p
preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into efiect, this is-capable of variation andmodification without depart-f1 ing from the spirit of the 'invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be'limited to the precise details of construction set. forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims. v
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:', I
1. A device of'the prising a body'having a groove therein adapted to receive a cigar; a trough hinged atone edge of said body; and a supporting apron hinged at the other edge of'said body, substantially as described.
class described, comextended, may be readily. supported against j .70 upon a. table, or the like. When out of use,

extending transversely across the same, there being an opening in each of said grooves situated at a distance from one edge of said" body; an ash trough hinged to said one edge of said body, said ash trough having its inner side serrated to lit the grooves in said body; and a supporting apron hingedlto the other edge of said body, said apron being adapted to close thecorresponding ends of said grooves and being provided with key hole slots for suspending the same, substantially as described; p
3. A device of the class described, com- 1 prising a bodyhaving a plurality of grooves extending transversely across the same, there being arr opening in each of said grooves situated at a distanoe 'ifroin one edge of said body; an ash trough hinged to said one edge of said body said ash trough having its inner side serrated to fit the grooves in said body; a supporting apron hinged to the other edge of saidbody, said apron being adapted to close the corresponding ends of 'said grooves and being provided with key-' hole slots for suspending thesarne; foldable 10 legs for supporting. said body; and a foldable match boX supported at one edge of said body, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
