Be it known that l/VILLrAM "W". BAGLEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Towel- Cabinets, of which the following is a specifi-l cation.

My invention relates to improve nents in towel cabinets and has for its object the pro vision of a simple and convenient construction of this character, arranged to support 4and retain the towels in a convenient manner without folding the saine.

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. Y

The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises a wall piece or board 4 having side boards 5 eX- tending outwardly from the upper portion thereof. A towel supporting shelf 6 is eX- tended between the outer lower portions of the side boards 5, and is adapted to support a plurality of ordinary -face towels 7 with their inner ends hanging freely through the open space 8 at the rear `of said shelf.

A shield or apron 9 is arranged in the cabinet below the opening 8 to conceal and protect the depending portions of the towels 7 The shelf 6 is provided centrally with a lock 10 of any usual or desired construction, and a towel guide member in the form of a tortnously bent rod is arranged to have. oneend detachably inserted and secured in said lock. The towel guide member is bent to provide a vertical portion 11 extending substantially vertically from the lock 10 and the shelf 6, thence over outwardly and downwardly to provide a substantially vertical portion 12 to guide the towel while in use,

centrally at the lower portion of the wall board or bracket 4 and is adapted to receive 55 the lower rearward :end of the towel guide rod. Each'of the towels7 is provided with a gromet 15 arranged to slide over the towel guide rod.

In use the grometed towels are threaded upon the portion 11 of the guide rod and are placed upon the shelf 6 with their outer portions lying on and supported by said shelf and their inner portions hanging or depending freely through the opening 8 at 65 the rear of the shelf. When it is desired to use a towel the uppermost towel is moved upwardly on the guide rod, .over and downwardly onto the vertical portion 12'where it may be freely used as desired. Upon re- V lease., the towel naturally falls to position on the towel supporting portion 13 and may be pushed backl out of the way. By this arrangement the towels may be conveniently piled or stacked in the cabinet without folding ofthe same and without making the cabinet of undesirable depth.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect,this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details' of construction 'set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

' Having described my invention what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A towel cabinet comprising a support-y ing shelf, there being a towel receiving opening in said cabinet behind said shelf, permitting the ends of towels on said shelf to depend therethrough; a shield arranged uny der saidshelf below and surrounding said opening, said shield being of a depth substantially equal tothe depending portion of towels; and a towel guide member associated with said shelf substantially as described. 2. A towel cabinet comprising a wall board; side boards extending outwardly from the upper portion thereof; a substantially horizontal supporting shelf connecting the ,outer lower edges of said side boards, leaving a towel receiving opening at the rear of said shelf; a shield arranged under said shelf below and surrounding said opening, said shield being open at Jche bot- 5 torn and of a depth substantially equal to the depending portion of said towels; a lock on said shelf; a rod having one end adapted to be secured in said lock, said rodz said wall board adapted to receive the lower inner end of said rod, substantially as de scribed.
