Description
J. WOSIEWSKI.
FILE PROTECTOR. APPLICATlON FILED 5.22. 1919.
Patented Aug. 17, 1920;
INVEN TOR.
WITNESS:
UNITED STATES JOHN WOSIEWSKI, OF NANTICOKE, PENNSYLVANIA.
FILE-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters latent.
Patented Aug. 17, 1920.
Application filed April 22, 1919. Serial No. 292,000.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHN WOSIEWSKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nanticoke, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in File- Protectors. of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved file guard or protector.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient file holder and protector which will accommodate files, rasps and similar tools and may be readily applied or removed, being held by friction on the file and requiring no auxiliary fastening means.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a bottom plan view of a file protector constructed in accordance with this invention shown applied.
Fig. 2 is a top plan or front view thereof,
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal central section taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on the line 4-4: of Fig. 3, and
Fig. 5 is a similar view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
In the embodiment illustrated, the guard or protector constituting this invention comprises a single piece of sheet metal 1 shaped to conform to the shape of the file to be housed therein, being especially designed for use in connection with fiat files. This guard or plate 1 has its side edges bent at right angles to form flanges 2 which are designed to engage the opposite side edges of the file F. The smaller end of the guard 1 is bent up to form a point retaining flange 3, said flange being referably provided with an inturned lip 4 s own clearly in Fig.
3. The rear end of the file guard has a band 5 extending transversely therearound which forms a guide for the file during its insertion and removal and also as a retaining member to hold the file in operative engagement with the guard, cooperating with the lip 4 at its other end for this purpose, hook-like fingers 6 bein carried by said band and extending longltudinally relative to said plate for engaging the shoulder of the file.
' From the above description, it will be ob vious that the file incased within this guard 1 will be protected at its back, side edges and front end as shown clearly in Fig. 2 with only one of its serrated or roughened faces exposed.
When it is desired to remove the file, all that is necessary is to slip the guard 1 olf, and to apply it the lip is reversed and the file slipped within the guard and held engaged therewith by its front end passing under the lip 4. and by the retaining band 5 which encircles the file near its handle or tank T.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the claimed invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Leters Patent, is
A file protector or guard comprising a single piece of sheet metal shaped to conform to the file in connection with which it is to be used, right angular flanges on the side edges of said guard, one end of the guard having a flange with an inturned lip, a band extending transversely around the other end of the guard, and hooks carried by said band and extending longitudinally p5 the guard to engage the shoulders of a In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN WOSIEWSKI.
