Description

B. H. BLOCKSOM.
CUSHIN COVER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY2l,1917.
Patented Aug. 10, 1920.
BERGET H. BLOcxsOM, OF CHICAGO, curando, ILLINOIS,
ILLINOIS, ASSIG-NOR TO WILSON A. CORPORATION 0F NEW YORK.
NT OFFICE.
a co., TNO., OF
Specication of Application filed May 21,
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, BERGET H. BLooxsoM, a citizen of the United States, residin at Chicago, in the countyv of Cook and tate of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cushion-Covers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a cover for cushions and has for its object the provision of means whereby the cushion is maintained indefinitely in its original form, thus insuring its continued resiliency. Further objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent as it is better understood by reference to the following specification when read in connection with the accompanying drawing, illustrating the preferred embodiment thereof in which- Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a cushion embodying my invention. C
Fig. 2 is a similar View with one of the flaps turned back.
Fig. 3 is a view in perspective showing the under side of the cushion and the fastening means for the Hap, and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail in section through one end of the cover.
Referring to the drawing, 5 vindicates the filling of the cushion which preferably comprises a pad of interstitched hair cut to a definite size with its edges substantially perpendicular to the top and bottom of the pad.
The cover comprises a bottom 7 With boxed edges 8 stitched thereto and an auxiliary top section 9 stitched to 'the `boxed edges at. one end of the cover. The section 9 1s comparatively narrow and the to 6, which corresponds in dimensions to the Ibottom 7 is stitched to the boxed ed es up to the section 9, leaving that part o the top which corresponds in size to the section 9 free from the boxed edges. The boxed edge l0 is stitched to the free end of the top 6 and an auxiliary section 11 is stitched to the boxed edge 10. This free end of the top 6, the boxed edge l0 and the auxiliary bottom section 1l constitute a boxed edge flap for inclosing the end of thel cushion, when a Letters Patent Patented Aug. 10, 1920.
1917. Serial No. 169,810.
filling is arranged in the cover, and providin g a complete boxedv edge cushion.. The slit between the inner edge of the auxiliary top section 9 and the' top 6 permits the insertion and removal of the filling and When the boxed edge Hap is secured in lace by snap fasteners l2 or other suitable astening means (Figs. 3-4) the filling will curely held in the cover and a smooth unbroken top surface provided for the cushion. Fastening straps 13 may be attached to the corners of the cover to secure the cushion in any desirable position for use.
The construction of my improved cover as above described is such that the tendency of the pad 5 to Hatten during use is effectively overcome. It is to be understood that the cover may be made of any suitable material which Adoes not give or stretch in use, such for example as canvas. The pad 5 is thus held under light lcompression when the cushion is in use and will therefore retain its original form almost indefinitely. I find that thisresult-is largely due to the peculiar construction embodying the flaps 9 and 11 and the auxiliary edge strip 10 and to the Inode of securing the flap 11 'to the bottom 7.
Various changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the .parts without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of t e material advantages thereof, the form here-l inbefore described, being vmerely a preferred embodiment thereof.
I claim:
be se- A cover for cushion pads comprising a y bottom piece, a box edge stitched thereto about the entire edge thereof, an auxiliary top piece having one end and its side edges stitched to said box ed e, a main top piece disposed opposite to sai auxiliar? piece and having one end and portions o both side edges stitched to said box edge, and a cap formed on the free end edge ofsaid main top piece to fit over and about the end of n915 the cover adjacent to said auxiliary piece.
