QUEZON, OF LONDON,"
SAFETY-RAZOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J un 29, 1920;
Application filed January 9, 1920. Serial No. 350,449..
This invention relates to improvements in and in connection with safetyrazors.
The present invention has for its object to provide an improved construction of safety razor, which is economical in manufacture, z'. 6., the chief components can be made of stampings; is of compact form the components can be readily assembled and broken down, and while possessing the advantage of safety, is adapted for use in the same manner as that of an ordinary razor. A further object in the fuller embodiment of the invention is to provide positioning means on the handle whereby the blade can be stropped.
A construction of safety razor under the invention comprises a handle which is extended in the same or substantially the same plane to form a single or double guard, thus forming a combined handle and guard in one piece. A single or double edged flat thin or otherwise wafer like blade is arranged to be clamped for rigidity by spring pressure between the guard and a clamping plate or backing, this clamping plate or backing having lugs stamped therefrom, which lugs pass through corresponding holes in the blade and in the combined handle and guard. The said lugs are so fashioned at the ends remote from the clamping plate or backing as to provide facilities for engaging and holding a pressure plate spring, the latter being so arched or. bowed that. when passed between and held by the aforesaid lugs a clamping or drawing together of the components is effected, to form an operative safety razor device.
In a fuller aspect ofthe invention, the handle has holes corresponding to those in the guard, so that by releasing the pressure spring to enable the components to be broken down at the guard end and assembling these parts at thehandle end in the same relationship as when assembled on the guard end, stropping of the blade on an ordinary strop can be effected.
The accompanying drawings illustrate a form of safety razor constructed under'the present invention Figures 1 and 2 are side views of the components assembled in operative position for shaving, Fig. 3 is an edge view thereof, and Fig. 4: is a side view of the components assembled for stropping.
Referring to the drawings a handle a is extended in the same or substantially the 7 same plane to form a double guard 6, thus forming a combined handle and guard in one 131606. A double edged flat wafer like blade 0 is arranged to be clamped between 1 the guard .7) and a clamping plate 61.. This clamping plate has lugs e, e stampedup therefrom, which lugs pass through holes 7", f, g, g, in the blade and guard respectively. The lugse, 6 may serve as positioning means for the blade with respect to the guard. The said lugs at the ends remote from the clamping plate engage and hold a pressure plate spring h, the latter being i so arched orbowed that when passed between and held by the aforesaid lugs a clamping or drawing together of the com.- .ponents is effected to'form an operative safety razor device.
The handle a has holes 7', j corresponding to the holes 9, g inthe guard so that by assembling the components at the handle end in the same relationship as when assembled on the guard end, stropplng of the between, a spring pressure-element, upstanding portlons on one component extending through the blade and the other component, the said upstanding portions at the ends re mote from their connection with the first mentioned component being so formed as to 1 cooperate withthe other component to engage and holdthe said spring pressure eleblade on an ordinary strop can be effected.
. plate component, ablade interposed therement whereby a clamping or drawing together ofthe components is effected for the.
purpose described. V
2. A safety razor comprising a combined handle and guard component in one piece, a clamping plate component, a blade interposed therebetween, a spring pressure element, upstanding portions on one component extending through the blade and the other component, the said upstanding portions at the ends remote from their connec- A tion with the first mentioned component being so formed as to cooperate with the other component to engage and hold the said spring pressure element whereby a clamping.
or drawing together of the components is effected for the purpose described.
3. A safety razor comprising a combined handle and guard component, a clamping plate component, a blade interposed therebetween, aspring pressure element serving also aspositioning means for the blade with respect to the guard, upstanding portions on. one component extending through the bladeand the. other component, the. said upstanding portions at the ends remote from their connection with the firstmentioned component being soformed as to cooperate with the other component to engage and hold the said springpressure' element whereby a clamping or. drawing together of' the components is effected for the purpose described.
4:. A safety razor comprisinga combined handle and guard component, a clamping plate; component, a blade interposed therebetween, a spring pressure'element, upstanding. portions on one component extending.
through the blade'and' the other component,
the said upstanding portions at the ends re- 1 mote from their connection with the first mentioned component being so formed as to cooperate with the-other component to from the clamping plate, as to provide facilities for engaging and holding the spring pressure element whereby a clamping or drawing together. of the components is effected for the purpose described.
6. A safety razor comprising a combined handle and guard component, a clamping plate component, a blade interposed-therebetween, a pressure plate spring, lugs on the clamping plate, said lugs passing through;
corresponding holesin the blade and the combined handle and guard,the lugs being so formed at the ends remote from the engaging and holding the pressure plate clamping plate as to provide facilities for spring whereby a clamping or drawing together of the components is effected for the purpose described.
7. A safety razor comprising a combined handle and guard component inone piece, a
clamping plate component, a' blade inter.- posed therebetween, a pressureplate spring,
lugs on'the clamping plate said lugs passing through corresponding holes inthe blade and the combined handle and guard, the lugs being so formed atthe ends remote from the clamping plate as to provide facilities for engaging and holding the pres-v sure plate spring whereby, a clamping or drawing together ofthe components is effected for the purpose described;
-S. A safety razor comprising. a combined handle and guard component in one piece, a clamping platecomponent, a blade. interposed therebetween, a pressure plate springserving also as position ng means for the blade with respect to the guard, lugs on the clamping plate, said lugs passing through' corresponding holes in the blade and the combined handle and guard, the lugs being so formed at. the ends remote'from the clamping plate as to provide facilities for engaging and holding the pressure plate 7 spring whereby a clamping or drawing together of the componentsis effected for the purpose described. 1
9. A safety razor comprising a combined handle and guard component, in one piece,
a clamping plate component, a blade interposed therebetween, a pressure plate spring, lugs on the clamping plate, said lugs passing through corresponding holes in the blade and the combined. handle and guard, the" lugs being so formed at the .endsremote from the clamping plate as to provide facilities for engaging'and holding the pressure lat'es rin whereb' a clam ain or b b drawing together-of the components is effected and meansat the handle end where by the components can be assembled for stropping in the'same relationship as when.
assembled: on the guard.
